Short-barrel shotguns become legal in Indiana July 1

INDIANAPOLIS -- It will soon be legal to manufacture, sell or own a short-barreled shotgun -- sometimes called a sawed-off shotgun -- in Indiana.

The General Assembly approved a bill earlier this year to bring state law in line with federal regulations.

State Sen. Jim Tomes, R-District 49, says the law puts short-barreled shotguns, or those less than 18 inches in length, back into a category of firearms that require background checks and permits from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Meanwhile, criminals with hacksaws shrug their shoulders because they're not suppose to have guns in the first place.

True, but it's encouraging to see that another state is taking a step in the right direction, by repealing a gun law that has proven to have virtually zero effect on crime, and allowing honest citizens the opportunity to own such firearms legally.
