Shooting Random Objects

Be aware that many ranges have rules as to what kind of targets can be used. Most of those rules are not for pure safety, but because of the large amoun tof debris that gets left behind. For example, we had to ban CDs a few years back because they shatter and leave plastic fragments all over the place.

My favorite target is still the empty soap bottle. Set a tent stake high on the berm with a string to the handle of the bottle. allow the bottle to hang almost to the bottom of the berm. Now, using any caliber, shoot the bottom of the bottle and watch it leap into the air. The string keeps it in a safe location and you cna just keep hitting the bottle again and again. See who can get the bottle to jump each time from a full magazine. See who can keep the bottle moving with each shot until out of ammo.

For dramatic demonstrations, nothing beats the melon with a hollowtip. Messy, but very dramatic.
