Shooter in Canadian Parliment

Are you all ready to give up your guns and ammo yet? This kind of crap is coming to a place near you!

Not at all. My suggestion is to take the bastards our with extreme prejudice! Screw Obama and his, "The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam."

I think a simple question is would the world be a better place without Islam? I think we all know the answer.

Full quote with context:

It is time to leave the call of violence and the politics of division behind. On so many issues, we face a choice between the promise of the future, or the prisons of the past. And we cannot afford to get it wrong. We must seize this moment. And America stands ready to work with all who are willing to embrace a better future.

The future must not belong to those who target Coptic Christians in Egypt -- it must be claimed by those in Tahrir Square who chanted, "Muslims, Christians, we are one." The future must not belong to those who bully women -- it must be shaped by girls who go to school, and those who stand for a world where our daughters can live their dreams just like our sons. (Applause.)

The future must not belong to those corrupt few who steal a country’s resources -- it must be won by the students and entrepreneurs, the workers and business owners who seek a broader prosperity for all people. Those are the women and men that America stands with; theirs is the vision we will support.

The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam. But to be credible, those who condemn that slander must also condemn the hate we see in the images of Jesus Christ that are desecrated, or churches that are destroyed, or the Holocaust that is denied.

Bull,

and Shit.

An attack on the seat of government of a major western nation and a close US ally is big news. An attack that threatened the head of state of the nation is a big story.

This is most likely not a rampage shooting, it is more likely a military style attack with the goal of decapitating the government of Canada.

First shooting at the War Memorial to attract attention and resources to that. Second shooting at a shopping mall to add to the confusion. Third (main) attack on the intended target. I'm no military genius, I'm not even a veteran, but distraction attacks are not limited to the military. Anyone can come up with that idea and if they have enough resources execute it.

It's way more than just likely, it's almost a certainty, that this was a terrorist attack by someone. Jihadists? Yeah, most likely, but could be some other disgruntled group.

Imagine if someone decided to attack Congress and assassinate the President at the same time. Like the President or hate him, he's the President. Even if you hate the man, the office needs to be protected.

An assassination of a head of state would be a major victory for terrorists.

Why exactly does "the office" need to be protected?

Like they said in Saving Private Ryan : " all of this for one man - ONE MAN".

Last time I checked this is supposed to be the United States of America - where nobody is above the law and all of that.

Not some freaking dictatorship where the President is so much more important than all the rest of us. The Presidency is also supposed by just ONE branch of government - and not necessarily the most important one. The fact that we have all come to believe that the president is so goddamed important - is at least part of what has gone wrong with this country.

Not advocating he get shot - but seriously - stop licking his ass.

We've gotta ban those deadly high capacity assault lever guns. This isn't the wild west.

Seriously though, I love how he's called a "gunman" instead of "islamic terrorist" or "jihadist" in the news.

Is this guy that anxious to do more with less that he's rocking out on the Canadian Parliament building that homedurka did it with a .30-30 lever gun? Looks an afoul lot like it.

Guaranteed, Canadian gun control groups will try to use this to ban lever actions. "They can be used to shoot incredibly quickly, like machine guns with these terrible tubes that hold many bullets"

Also, they already have people riled up about terrorism. What they need now is homegrown shooters so that .gov can expand both abroad and at home.

I admire how Canada has no problem calling this guy a terrorist. Hmmmm. We only get workplace violence, random acts of violence and mass killers. No terrorists here. Nope.[rolleyes]

Yup, and we would then get a blitz of omg assault rifle and gun control articles.

The first headlines I saw about this today were "back to business as usual in Ottawa" and this article praising the guy who killed the murder:

An article praising the guy who shot the murderer:
"‘Thank God’ for Kevin Vickers, Canada’s new national hero"
http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...-vickers-canadas-new-national-hero/?tid=hp_mm

And we just get "No good guy with a gun every stopped anyone, Derp"

That's because gun control has already won up there. They're not giving up any ground by acknowledging reality.

Their press has been calling for MOAR gun control too... Never let a crisis/tragedy go to waste.

Maybe the AP/Media Matters/whomever writes their stories does so for a North American audience, and isn't tailoring their stories for Canadian consumption specifically. [laugh]

PM calls it "terrorism". So, not "workplace violence" it seems... [sad2]

Sad day when a monarchist, socialist state has better leadership than we do. Then again, we are also a monarchist, socialist state.

The CAN leader is there conservative party. He's been very good for them and this isn't the first time he's called it what it is. His statements on events have always been much stronger than obama. He's party of the reason the CAN economy is much better than the us now.

It's sadly ironic that Australia and Canada have more conservative leaders than do we.

This is about the same as suggesting a ban on airplanes on Dec. 8, 1941.
