You're a one-man "joint operation." Modern war at its finest.

USMC 1967-1968 MCRD-0311-1st MARDIV-3rd Battalion-7th Marines-"I"ndia Company Lt. Charles Robb was our CO & he just happened to be LBJ's son in law. We were at Hill 52 south of DaNang and ran day/night patrols in the foothills. I was WIA, during one of our night time ambushes, on October 4, 1968 & ultimately the VA gave me a 100% disability rating. It only took 2 years (insert sarcasm here), and my wife, daughter & I starved until my 'LOST' pay records were found. Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful to be alive and proud of my service.

Let me be the first to welcome you to this site!

I see you are from Michigan......my first combat duty was in Detroit during the riots in 67![laugh2]

I went to Vietnam about four months later.......and Vietnam was a lot better than Detroit![rofl][rofl][rofl]

Thank you sir. The '67 riots took place in August if I remember correctly & it was hotter than a skillet on a high flame. I was born in Lansing & we just didn't go east for anything. We must have left about the same time.

I lived in Charlotte!.....but my last year in Michigan was the W.J Maxey Boy's Training School at Whitmore Lake!

I broke out the window in October of 66, hitchhiked into Detroit and joined the Army!

It was the smartest thing I ever did in my life.

The seconds smartest thing I ever did was get out of the Army in 1973![rofl][rofl][rofl][rofl]

Joined the Army National Guard a few months ago and headed to Ft Sill in a few weeks. MOS is 13D. I'll be the grandpa of the group having just turned 33 last week. Having a few RSP drills I was surprised at how well I've done compared to the younger guys. PT scores have been in 250s and improving. A bit late in life to be joining the service but I needed to check off that box on my list. I'd rather regret doing this then regret not trying. Wish me luck!

I did Ft Sill for two straight summers (split option NG); there's no way it can be worse in the winter. Good luck and keep your head down, and good on you for stepping up.
