Always good to see another GACer here. I retired last July after 24 years but worked fighters, full time Air Guard. So, just A-10s and F-15 C/Ds.

daggrant99, I was only at GK while TDY with AFLC Tinker Depot, installed a "platform satcom" system in their "E-3's, dont remember exact dates, would have to lookup deployment history. I do remember their aircraft, nice and clean birds. [thumbsup]

Nice, I was at AFCENT for 4 years. Wife and I had good friend working for the AWACS, civilian contractor. Had to go to GK every couple weeks. My house was quite close to the base. Love that area!!

Hello neighbor! I'm living 6 miles from (former) Rivers and ~ 15 miles from (former) Ayers. Rivers is a car mile and admin buildings, The Rock is a logistics center now. 5/3 was a partnership unit to my local Reserve Assn.

Which was your favorite and why?

M109 series. I had the ffortune to work on several versions from the A2/3 up to the A6 Palladin version. It was fast to move, set up, load and fire and then scoot away just as quickly. The others were also fun but to me did not compare...Plus the M109 had a heater...A must on the cold Ft Carson and German winters...[wink]

Mine was the M110. Sucked in the winter and when it rained though.

I've spent more than a few years working with the M109, first, the A3, then the A4 and A5. I used to be in an M109 unit (1/86 FA) and worked in a DS/GS maint shop (CSMS, Army Guard). I did a vast majority of the M109 work for quite a while, until we hired another guy from 1/86.

I've got to admit the heater usually worked quite well, even in VT and Ft Drum, NY. That said, I also used to fix those heaters.

Honey I'm Home...

Joined Army summer '65' at 17. Basic, AIT, at Ft Dix, 11Bravo, 95 Bravo, 67 Foxtrot, shipped out to South East Asia out as a new combat brigade, 199th Light Infantry Brigade in '66'. In '67' extended tour to fly as a Huey door gunner, War Zone 3, North of The 'Iron Triangle'. Cut my teeth on 'Slicks' UH-1D then transitioned to 'Charlie' model UH-1C gunships. A 'skid-walker' and free hand artist M-60. WIA Tet-68, mustered out July 4, 1968...

Funny I remember my MP patrol partner at Fort Dix pointed out to me the barracks of the newly returned SE Asia troops..." Frenchy, see those guys there ? Leave them the hell alone...sage advice. 2 1/2 years later I was one of then... just wanting to be left alone,.... Never forget those who gave it all
