The legislation comes after the son and husband of New Jersey-based U.S. District Judge Esther Salas were shot in their home.
Federal prosecutors and judges would get the ability to carry concealed firearms if a bill introduced by a trio of southern Republican senators is made law.

Sens. Tom Cotton, Marsha Blackburn and Kelly Loeffler introduced the Protect Our Prosecutors and Judges Act on Tuesday to allow federal prosecutors and judges to have a concealed carry license.

The bill would expand the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act, which allows current and retired law enforcement officers to carry concealed firearms, to include current and retired federal; judges, and state, local, and federal prosecutors.

“Prosecutors and judges make difficult decisions daily that have the potential to put them in harm’s way,” Loeffler, a Republican from Georgia, said in a statement. “In a day and age when personal information is so easily accessible online, these public servants should be able to protect themselves and their families at all times.”

The lawmakers noted that according to a U.S. Marshals Service report from this year, “threats and inappropriate comments” against protected persons increased by a magnitude of four since 2015.

“Right now, law enforcement officials are facing increased threats to their safety just for doing their jobs,” Blackburn, a Republican from Tennesse, said. “Cities across the country have seen a spike in crime in the wake of weeks-long protests, making the thin blue line appear even thinner than usual.”

What kind of B.S. is this?

Why not allow concealed carry for everybody?

Nope, no ccw for you!
They have put enough people in jail for illegal firearm laws that are against our constitution!

Yeah.... that whole thing in the Constitution about no privileges or titles of nobility and the 14th Amendment's whole bit on equal justice under the law and incorporating the Bill of Rights to also apply to the states re: protection of rights, totally out the window.

Enforce the 2A against the states the refuse to obey it rather than keep writing these unconstitutional laws trying to worm around states that won't listen.

Throwing NY and NJ officials in jail for violating FOPA on a daily basis would be a nice start without even getting into constitutional violations by the states.

Intra-government quid pro quo in action.

How about we parole all the felons they convicted way early cause BLM, COVID, just non-violent drug pushers, etc., and give them their voting *and* firearms rights back? And post their home addresses on a website.

Then sure, Judges and Prosecutors would have justifiable cause for CCW.

I wonder when so-called "conservatives" are going to catch on to the fact that Tom Cotton is an authoritarian big-government a**h***.

For a Harvard Law graduate and JAG officer, he displays absolutely zero understanding of the Constitution. It's frightening that he used to write rules of engagement for our forces overseas.

I think our lawmakers are making it very clear that LE lives are worth protecting and the rest of us aren't.

How about instead of this happy horseshit they just slap NJ around a bit and tell them to quit f***ing with the 2nd Amendment?

Because y'know, that would be the intended purpose of the federal government.

You know what is so funny and ironic at the same time.
The same power that the police and feds have to carry firearms around freely.
Are the same rights our constitution guaranteed our citizens in the 2nd amendment.
These lawyers can't even tell that they don't need anymore laws to say that they can do that.
Because our constitution already says we can!

What a bunch of ignorant, retarded, self centered, greedy, power stricken, mental morons we have in positions of authority!
They are so blind from their power trips that they refuse to see what has always been right in front of their faces.
But they need to seem to be more special than the serfs and have even greater power of self protection!

God help them, when this deck of cards comes crashing down!

It's hard to find true patriots in DC. Ted Cruz talks a good game but isn't immune.

6 years ago, I supported Joni Ernst in IA. Tough race. She won.

2 years later, corn likker gasoline rules came up. She fought hard to ensure we kept this perennial loser within our government. Total sell-out to what she stood for. She's up for re-election. I don't like it, but I'll support her again.

(A true patriot would have s-canned the ethanol regs and then told everyone she was planning on resigning and support 100% the new Republican candidate. Instead, she chose staying in office over the American people and the people of Iowa. :( )

Cotton was an Infantry officer, not a JAG from everything I know about him.
This judge and hubby could have applied for an LTC and I'm sure it would have been issued.

First of all, don't we have 2A. So if they decide to exercise their rights then they will have a gun. And what good would it have done in this case.

The husband answers the door and the son was there as well. According to the Judge she was in the basement of the home.

So unless her husband or son had a gun the judge would not have prevented this.

Yeesh, the glass is always half empty around here. You need to look at it the right way:

NY/NJ will start off by ignoring this law just like they ignore LEOSA (and FOPA).

Wait until Marsha shuttles down to Fun City for some day conference,
and gets the Port Authority treatment at La Guardia. [popcorn]

Also, they'll get the guns but skip the training.
We should see some instances of Judicial Glock Leg in short order.
