Hi all,
Need some help. Been trying all night to find Massachusetts' law regarding curio and relic rifle purchases. I'm out of state. Have a buyer from Massachusetts interested in my rifle, he has a c&r license, but I'm not sure I can ship/sell him the rifle. I noticed empire arms doesn't sell to MA residents, and they have the laws for my state correct. Also noticed other & r dealers that don't sell to MA. Can anyone point me to the state laws regarding such a transaction? Thanks for the help.

You won't find anything in MA laws "allowing" C&R sales. MGLs are relatively silent on C&Rs and that is a GOOD THING!

You can ship to a MA C&R FFL. You must get a copy of his FFL (you already knew this) AND his LTC and that is it.

I suggest you read Dennis' website a bit more carefully, it does NOT say that he won't sell to MA. As a matter of fact I bought a very nice Russian Capture K98 SS bnz from him with no problem whatsoever (I sent him my C&R, LTC and cc number and it was a go).

Thanks for the info guys. What's an LTC?

In MA (unlike almost any other state in the US), you need a LTC to even think about guns. LTC is a town-issued permit (discretionary) that allows you to possess/buy guns, ammo, mags, components. Possession without one is a Felony with more jail time than murder in this state.

I'm trying to keep it relatively simple above. More detailed info below:

- For guns, we have 3 classes of permits: LTC-A, LTC-B and FID (in declining value order).
- LTC-A allows you to possess/buy anything that isn't banned by law (other than smgs, different permit for that).
- LTC-B allows you to possess/buy any low-cap handguns/handgun mags and any legal rifles/shotguns (even hi-cap).
- FID ONLY allows you to possess/buy low-cap rifles/shotguns.

Empire will not sell ammo or HiCap mags in Mass. Dennis does sell firearms to Mass residents.
