People question .22 as a defensive round, but it's better than a meat cleaver.

I would think you'd have more placement control, especially since lower recoil under a high pressure situation could be a plus. I'd rather have at least a 38 though!

The only mandatory criteria for being in a gun fight is "Have a Gun". Everyone's (including my own) personal preference aside people should get the caliber they are most comfortable with. As the old saying goes "A .22 in the hand beats a .45 in the safe"
