to the knowledgable out there, i recently got my c&r and have been looking at swiss rifles. the 7.5x55 is a nice round and the straight pull bolts seem cool. but certain places selling these have a few different models. anyone lend any experiences with either, opinions or just info?
the k31's seem especially nice but as I don't know about any of them I'm not sure if the m1911, or m1911/23, or 85/11's etc. i low the 003 is a blessing, and a curse haha but I'm glad to have gotten it.

thanks to any for advice and some knowledge before going into a purchase!

As for mil surplus shooters...... K31 has out standing trigger.
Seriously the only thing that sucks about the newer imports is the horrible import billboard markings.
I love my K31 the ammo G11 ammo is very good also.... If you don't reload buy as much ammo as you can while it's still less than 1$ round.
I'm tempted to buy another?

You can't go wrong with any of the Swiss rifles IMHO. They are a true bargain. I was looking at these not long ago when they where less than 200$ finally grabbed one before the prices jump again mine was 289$ shipped with sling.

I recently added a K31 to my collection. Extremely happy with it! It is a 1943 model with the walnut stock. Post war models I believe are birch or a lighter colored wood. The craftsmanship is superb on these. And the straight pull is a unique design. VERY well made!!!

why did they change what the import marks look like?

Changes in import laws. All info has to be on receiver, along with a new serial number effect.

Here all of this now has to be on imported firearms. Not just the importer state stamp found on the under side of barrel like days of old.....

https://www.atf.gov/firearms/firear...rms-ammunition-firearms-verification-overview. So you know if the rifle was imported before or after 2002 by the required stamping. So if you get a rifle that doesn't have the bill board they(vendor) have been sitting on them for a while.

Get one.
You won't find a more accurate surplus rifle anywhere.
They'll never be cheaper than today.
/end thread

The only surplus rifle I ever bought that I went to the range put 6 rounds of surplus ammo into the mag.
Went prone with support and hit the target where I was aiming. 200yards aiming at the 6 o'clock of a SR 1 target . 6 rounds into a nice 5" group just high of point of aim into the 9 ring. Windage was dead on.

Ordered one from that place... asked for condition instead of matching numbers, but who knows still may get good numbers. Either way I should be happy and am definitely excited as hell. This 003 thing is gonna be costly haha! Will report on it as soon as she comes in. Grabber an sks from them for shits n giggles since I've never had one!

I may be wrong but I don't think there are many non matching k31s.? Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought I read that when K31s hit the armoury.....which was not often for guns that don't see combat.
They where checked out and repaired individually?

mac, you very well may be correct, i am not exactly sure. when i placed the order via phone the woman asked if i wanted it iced for condition or matching numbers, i said condition. hopefully you are right and numbers will be good as well. didn't think about the fact they rarely likely saw action. we'll see when it gets in, can't wait now! tick tock tick tock!!

well, to my pleasant surprise this evening during the nightly news, the ups man stops out front. comes up with my package! phone ordered friday and here already, very pleased. serial seems to be matching although it was labeled with a new one upon import that is what i logged in my bb. the name tag underneath the butt plate had the same serial and name and some other info i didn't know typed on it. the barrel looks really clean, and the straight pull design is neat. the company that sends them specifies no in house gunsmith. is this thing safe to shoot at the range tomorrow or should i have a gunsmith check headspace. from what i can tell bolt matches the gun. the import marks really ugly them up, y'all weren't kidding…
any idea what kind f stock it is, I'm not good with woods. can't wait to learn more and shoot this old piece of craftsmanship it really looks pretty good for it's age.
anyways heres a few photos, and great turn around time!

just ask for more photos is any questions in helping identify anything. mag number matched as well. how would one clean the leather sling up, seems to be a bit of mold, not a big deal and also in decent condition.

Looks like walnut? I'm going to say it's very unlikely it's not headspaced. The Swiss took good care of their rifles. I shot mine with out hesitation. Now buy as much as that G11 ammo as you can.
Expect a full range report. Nice looking rifle. I cold blued my import marks

I would shoot that rifle with no problem.,I just use a little soap, and water to clean the mold then put on some leather conditioner.Don't forget to yodel while you are shooting it.

You've already gotten lots of good info. With respect to the different models, you can't go wrong reading here: http://www.swissrifles.com/sr/

Have fun with your new rifle!

FWIW, you can reload the GP-11 brass quite readily. Although you may have to experiment with some .308" bullets, due to the typically short throat on the K31, you'll find plenty of suitable bullets.
For economy and ease of shooting, I've been using the Lyman 311410 130gr LRN (a .30 Carbine bullet) and X-treme's 150gr PFN (about 11 cents each). The PFN works in my rifle at 2.700" COL, but for smoother feeding, 2.650" seems to be ideal.

If you seek full power fodder, just keep buying the GP-11, as long as you can find it.
Cheers!

Just about the last of the 500 count box of plated flat noses....
...even with the shallower KV-24N primers, they still work great for economical plinking/bowling pin fodder.
(Don't know how many times I've loaded these 29 pieces this week!)
