Spurred on by what StevieP did last year, I'm going to try still hunting for the shotgun season. I'm already budgeting 4 days for the hunt.

Got some new scentlock stuff that's about to get the anti-tick treatment. I would love any suggestions for a good scent free detergent / treatment for the clothes, and then for my human smelling ass.

Also, the scent lock clothes suggest storing them in an airtight container. Would using my vac packer be a little *too* silly?

Any suggestions on if I should also treat my skivvies, my glasses, and my shotgun?

Danke.

I have been using this "http://www.atsko.com/products/laundry-care/sport-wash-residue-free-detergent.html" with great results for years. I then use the dead down wind products for hair, body, and deodorant.
Whichever one you chose just make sure it does not have any uv brighteners in it.

I use "Hunters Specialties" brand for deoderant, shampoo and HE washer detergent. It seems to be pretty good and economical. I air dry all my clothes, spray them down again and store them in an airtight container. Yes, I'd wash the skivvies in the same manner. Glasses you could give a quick spray but that's getting a little nit-picky IMO. But above that-follow the advice everyone else has already given-hunt the wind, stay away from anything with the UV brighteners in it and use your head about most of it. Every little bit helps, but they've been getting deer long before Scent Lok and charcoal filters came along.

While scent control has been proven to be a plus ask your grandfather about hunting when he was young. That's going back to the days of all night drunks and card games in a hunting cabin with all day hunting wearing anything they had and smoking cigars at the same time.

I've got the Scent Block gear, the scent/UV free detergent, clean storage, etc. But yesterday I blew it. I didn't have attractant scent setup in place while using an estrus bleat. A BIG buck circled around behind me in an unanticipated direction, and winded me. He might've actually seen me in the stand as well. So all that scent blocking stuff didn't make up for my poor planning. Hoping I get another chance next week, and he'll have forgotten about me by then -- he was crashing through the brush to find the source of the bleats. If this rut business is till in full effect by then...

One thing I've noticed is deer/bear/moose/fox do not seem to have a problem with following a path I've recently been on, even with me having made contact with the brush. I do take care to avoid any contact with my hands or anything I've touched.

As I get more hunting seasons behind me I care less and less about scent cover. I do wash my clothes in scent-free stuff but other than a quick spray as I get out of the truck, I don't do much more.

I was hunting in a box blind in NC about 6 year ago and shot a small buck at 70 yards. After dragging him back to the bottom of the stand I had a smoke while sitting in the open doorway of the blind. Two minutes later another deer came out to the same spot and I shot that one too.

Wind direction is more important to me.

Would, but can't if you know what I mean. Same with my pops. Having to learn a lot of this shit on my lonesome. Besides, my home range in NV is a place where you don't really give a rip about scent because you're spotting deer a mile a way and hiking in to them.

Thanks for the other input guys. I'm going to have a couple things at hand to gauge the wind as I go.

I'll be giving the hunter's specialties stuff a try, small easy to use kit from amazon. Includes samples of everything, maybe test how well it works on my dog. [smile]

Definitely a good read, thanks.

I think I might need to relax and have a homebrew. I saw deer while turkey hunting, and come to think of it, it was always while I was walking out. Had a couple big bucks come up on me and then bounce away.
