Chapter 140 Section 121 -- Definition of a Rifle
“Rifle”, a weapon having a rifled bore with a barrel length equal to or greater than 16 inches and capable of discharging a shot or bullet for each pull of the trigger.

Assault Weapons Ban Wording
a semiautomatic rifle that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least 2 of--
(i) a folding or telescoping stock;
(ii) a pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon ;
(iii) a bayonet mount;
(iv) a flash suppressor or threaded barrel designed to accommodate a flash suppressor; and

(v) a grenade launcher;

So does this mean if you have a legal SBR with the required stamp that since the barrel is less than 16 inches it is not a rifle under MA law and therefore not subject to the AWB? Or is there other wording in the law that I neglected to find or case law that precludes this?

Thanks.

There's a FAQ item in the NFA sub forum about this. Bump it there if you have additional questions.
