OK.. So you live in the Commiewealth of MA, and you own a deadly "assault weapon". You don't want anyone to hate you for having such a gun in your "arsenal".

Whatever should you do???

Well... There's only one possible answer for that. Give em' the old one finger salute, and make your gun even more EVIL looking! [twisted]

Seriously though. With this rebuild I was looking to accomplish a couple of things. First and foremost, I wanted to make this gun more usable, fix the known awful trigger manufactured by Century, and give myself the ability of adding some things later on, if I feel the need.

First, at 6'1" tall, shooting the stubby little SAR-1 was not the most comfortable thing. So I decided to stretch this baby out just a bit. I changed out the factory wood, for a composite butt stock, and added some length.

I wanted to replace the horrible trigger that Century slaps into these guns. The bad trigger, and WAY out of spec parts cause the well known and very painful "trigger slap". You can see in this picture, the difference in the disconnecter that causes this. On top is the Century disconnecter, and on the bottom is the Tapco disconnecter.

I decided that as long as I was going to be taking the gun apart, I might as well swap out some other parts as well.
Here is a pic of all the parts I swapped out, and added on.

Among the parts, I also changed the rectangle pistol grip, for a MUCH better feeling SAW grip, also from Tapco. I also wanted the ability to add on tactical accessories if I want. I added the forward hand guard, and added the rails. And to round everything out, a nice bipod.

Just holding the gun up to my shoulder and taking aim it feels much better, and the new trigger group is tight, has no take-up and breaks nice and crisp.

Here is the before. A plain Jane SAR-1

And the after.

So, what do you thing?

I have some porn shots as well, But I will post those over in the Gallery.

I put one of those G2 triggers and the SAW pistol grip on my WASR-10, when I opened it up for hi-cap mags.

I can't bring myself to do the plastic furniture yet, though.

But, that does look good.

I was kind of leery at first, but when I got the pieces in, I was amazed at how strong, and precision molded it is.

Thanks

Fit doesn't bother me. I've got a couple of "Black Rifles", one Brit, the other an AR clone. My SKS is repainted wood, like that when I got it. But, the WASR is laminated, and I like that.

Very nice.

I got a used AK with a dragonv stock, however the front gas tube has an intergrated weaver mount, so the wood handgaurd is still on. I was thinking of doing a "one to one" trade for an original so I can get the plastic handguard. I am an iron site guy, and if I went optics I would buy posp.

I put the power custom trigger in mine. BIG difference when shooting.

That did come out real nice Adam. Nice and clean.
I like the traditional "utilitarian" look too.
No matter what you do to an AK it still looks so bad![wink]

Thanks!

I actually got to finally shoot it this past Saturday. MAN did it ever feel different! And different in a GOOD way. The only thing though, is that bipod is spring assisted in both yaw tilt, and the legs that fold back. I found that if when you pull the trigger, you don't press it firmly to the back and HOLD, it will bump fire itself. There is NO rapid fire at my range, and luckily the few guys that were on the range left when I set it up on the bipod and lightly pulled the trigger. <bang><bang><bang> OOPS!

Thats great Adam. Nice to know that it not only looks sweet, but fires great.

As far as the rapid fire, is that tapco a double hook? I had the problem at first with the my Power Custom. Its the Military adjustable system and I had to adjust it to stop it. Took a few days to figure out (four screws). But what a big improvement over the Romanian system.

Also, did you get the shepards crook replacement?

It's the Tapco single hook G2. I don't think there is any adjustment on it. However, it could have just been me, because I was used to the trigger before, where you would pull it, then release just a bit so the trigger slap wouldn't hurt as bad.

As for the Shepard's hook replacement. I didn't get it, and frankly I don't really see much of a need for it. The Shepard's hook that is in there, does it's job just fine, and the instructions I found online were great, and I had it all installed again in under a minute...
