OK.. So you live in the Commiewealth of MA, and you own a deadly "assault weapon". You don't want anyone to hate you for having such a gun in your "arsenal".
Whatever should you do???
Well... There's only one possible answer for that. Give em' the old one finger salute, and make your gun even more EVIL looking! [twisted]
Seriously though. With this rebuild I was looking to accomplish a couple of things. First and foremost, I wanted to make this gun more usable, fix the known awful trigger manufactured by Century, and give myself the ability of adding some things later on, if I feel the need.
First, at 6'1" tall, shooting the stubby little SAR-1 was not the most comfortable thing. So I decided to stretch this baby out just a bit. I changed out the factory wood, for a composite butt stock, and added some length.
I wanted to replace the horrible trigger that Century slaps into these guns. The bad trigger, and WAY out of spec parts cause the well known and very painful "trigger slap". You can see in this picture, the difference in the disconnecter that causes this. On top is the Century disconnecter, and on the bottom is the Tapco disconnecter.
I decided that as long as I was going to be taking the gun apart, I might as well swap out some other parts as well.
Here is a pic of all the parts I swapped out, and added on.
Among the parts, I also changed the rectangle pistol grip, for a MUCH better feeling SAW grip, also from Tapco. I also wanted the ability to add on tactical accessories if I want. I added the forward hand guard, and added the rails. And to round everything out, a nice bipod.
Just holding the gun up to my shoulder and taking aim it feels much better, and the new trigger group is tight, has no take-up and breaks nice and crisp.
Here is the before. A plain Jane SAR-1
And the after.
So, what do you thing?
I have some porn shots as well, But I will post those over in the Gallery.
