S&W Tells Nuns to F*** Off

{I couldn't think of where else to put this without giving it its own thread}

I was at Western New England U. in Springfield, MA yesterday for their end of year Engineering Expo where the Engineering students display their tech projects. One graduating Sr. did his project with S&W on Tribology (friction between surfaces). A college project involving guns stopped me in my tracks. I asked him if it took much courage to do a project with a gun maker. He said S&W actually does a fair number of things with the college and donates $ and resources. He also said he's a 3rd generation S&W employee. He was also 6'2", stood straight as a Marine and looked you square in the eye. I don't think much bothers him.

S&W recently bought a fancy machine to measure friction between 2 small contact surfaces under very high pressure (like at the sear) but they hadn't done much with it. He got the machine running and worked out the process for making the kind of measurements S&W would need. Then using finite element analysis (SolidWorks, I think) he determined the contact areas and pressures in various parts in one of their hammer fired trigger systems. Using the same materials the trigger uses he replicated those conditions with the tribology instrument to measure the frictions. With that he was able to tell S&W exactly how much of the trigger pull is from friction vs. springs and where the major friction points are. A lot of this S&W kind of knew, but now they have real numbers to work with.

BTW, one of my boys is finishing his freshman year there(mechanical eng) and I haven't gotten any reports from him of libtard activities or professors brainwashing the students.

Sometimes I think we're going to be OK.

Is there a shareholder newsletter?

Not sure. I don't own their stock, but having voted in many stock shareholder ballots, I will tell you the question would have been clear enough to understand in plain English. That would imply that the majority of shareholders voted to include these referendums, which again, is kind of nutty. Why would an investor vote in something that could hinder the sole function of the company you are investing in?

I’d like to know where the nuns are getting their money to buy shares of these companies. Track the money and you might find something is off. I would be more than a little pissed if I found out the money I put in the collection basket every Sunday was going to fund a political agenda.
Dont worry, they are already using your money to cover up rapes and pay for the relocation of rapists.

Ok, I’m not a S&W fan but I appreciate this action.

This makes up for putting the stupid lock on revolvers.

I’m still pissed at moving the firing pin and every new gun I’ve bought from them sucked. But they’re making progress.

WHy is a tax free church allowed to by stock in the first place?
I trust their ability to turn dividends and capital gains to provide a social safety net more than I do the Government's ability to do the same with taxpayer dollars. More efficient, as Capitalism is always over Government Wealth reDistribution.

WNEU Mechanical engineering grad right here. When I was a student a favorite activity was bashing the crap out of Hampshire College and the idiot drool hanging out of their mouth rich kids who earned degrees in backpacking and frisbee throwing. Honestly it was my professors who were the biggest instigators. When I was a student the biggest contributors were Raytheon and UTC. A lot of people, including myself, ended up working there. The S&W contribution is nice to see and shows how far out of touch I am with most of the alums I went to school with. These days I spend almost all of my time working with Uconn students and grads. One of the things that I am the most proud of is earning my BSME. I could have gone farther, but I was happy with where I landed in life.

resurrecting..

I own some shares in S&W, not many, but enough to get me a vote. Today I got the email and the nun's BS is in there again for the 4th consecutive year as Proposal 5.

That's probably what's behind Proposal 5 on the proxy statement. S&W recommends an "Against" vote.

As of 1215 hours, SWBI touched $24.82 a share...

That's my school! I have my BSME from Western New England. When I was a student (oh let's say years ago lol) it used to be normal for the professors and students to make fun of the local libtard colleges mainly Hampshire College where rich parents send their drooling idiot kids for a degree in frisbee throwing. I hope they didn't lose their edge and gone woke. Most people I have met in my lifetime who are also degreed engineers are generally more conservative and fiercely independent.

I used to be big in recruiting, women in engineering, etc but over the years I have pulled way back. I prefer working with a single person a young woman who wants to work in engineering.

When I was a student they had a lot of grants from UTC and Pratt & Whitney.

It doesn't mean the company is perfect though.
For most of the country, that means putting people in jail for violent acts. You yankees have to put up with your own laws. If we could lower suicide deaths by guns, it would take away 1/2 or more of the anti-gunner's argument.

Look you jambalaya eating cajun, neither am I now nor have I ever been a Yankees fan.

Kind of nutty both referendums passed. Who are these S&W and Ruger share holders who think this is in the best interest in the business of selling guns?
The largest shareholders are usually mutual funds, hedge funds, investment managers, etc. Most people own "stocks" by owning funds. The fund manager votes those shares. A lot of managers have SRI mandates, which is how motions like this pass.

I would have assumed as much, but the point doesn't change. Why would anyone (individual or fund manager) invest in a gun company and then vote in referendums that go against the business model? That is shooting yourself in the foot on a purely fiscal measure regardless if it was a single share holder or a fund manager controlling thousands of accounts. If SRI is that much of an issue, either divest or don't invest in a gun company in the first place.

That is kind of like socialists/communists/(insert your favorite pejorative) running for public office in the United States to further their aims of tearing down the Constitution.

What better way to tear down an organization than from the inside?

do I dare....boycott nuns! [angry2]

Ineffective - they signed up to boycott us!

I am all for allowing priests to marry, but do not think you want women priests.

Just look at some of the other religions who have allowed women to be clergy. Many of these women turn out to be stark, raving, bonkers liberals.

Not turn out, start out.

UTC, Raytheon, and Pratt & Whitney are all parts of one conglomerate now and the CEO is very woke. I have no idea about WNEU. (Yes, I was amused by quoting you twice.)

If the nuns really give a shit about gun violence they would go to cities like Chicago and explain to the inhabitants the importance of a two parent family where at least one of the parents has a job and the other parent raises the children.
Then instead of a bunch of fatherless gangbangers running around shooting each other you'd have law abiding gun owners who use their guns responsibly.

How dare you introduce logic into an emotional situation!! Lol
