S&W Moving HQ to Tennessee

The politicians in MA will be elated that they’re moving! It’s like the idiot woke companies that divest from “evil” industries and their investors end up taking the hit.

I never got that. I have a woke client who had a pile of SJW funds. "Why do you own those funds?" "I don't want those companies getting my money." Then I explained how the stock market worked. And how she was shooting herself in the foot. "Oh."

They are keeping their mass location open, so it isn't a total win.
Yeah. Let's close everything.

????

A couple of thoughts:

1. I'd say they are moving corporate office for tax purposes. The tax rate in TN is 6.5%. Versus 8% here. It's not much, but it's something. An extra 1.5% on your profits?

2. I remember when Balfour and Jostens left. . . . 30 or so years ago. 35? That was a cluster-bleep. They didn't do a great job of setting up Down South and all sorts of issues came up in QC for them. They pissed of a bunch of people for a little while. Then got it under control. Seems like today companies learned from that and open a satellite operation in another state then slowly move manufacturing there. Expect the same thing in this situation. In 10 years, it'll be a museum and MAYBE a shooting range. Maybe.

Yeah. Let's close everything.

Close everything in Mass? I'm good with it. f*** them if the state doesn't want their products around.

Agreed with moving for tax purposes as one of their primary reasons.

you should see all the companies , mostly financial ones moving to Florida

NO income tax for the Executives is the driving force.... remember the CEO from NJ that took his company to FL and the loss of his personal income taxes alone triggered a budget crisis in NJ?

Hertz moved there for a reason

Trump declared residency there for a reason, as did the late Rush Limbaugh

Howie Carr is now a Florida resident, you can bet his company is set up so that the majority of his income is paid in Florida and the 5 months he is in MA are paid at a lesser rate....

Does not the proposed law ban production of any part of an "assault style" rifle? If so, would that not include barrels?
Even if the law doesn't have that language in it, the AG will decide it does. But at least being on the rail line means it will be harder for state troopers to interfere with parts transportation.

This is just another case of NIMBY. Years ago, Burlington ran a high tech manufacturing company out of town and all the well paying manufacturing jobs with it. Low paying retail/service jobs replaced them.
You can bet city council members in Springfield are just waiting to take the property and convert it to either low paying retail space or homeless housing.

The vast majority of their products are AR, 1911, and M&P pistols. The rest are revolvers and some of the SD line of pistols.

I wonder if they will move customer service to TN as well?

Do they make their own AR lowers and other components? As in do they forge the lowers and then machine them on the CNC machines? Or do they buy the forged blanks like most other AR manufacturers do?

The company that makes the M&P lowers is owned by S&W, but was based CT. They could move that as well, I guess.

I just saw the S&W press release. It looks as though they will be moving the AR line and the M&P pistol line. Based on possible MA. Legislation that would prohibit production of any assault style firearms and firearms that hold large capacity magazines. So the state is responsible for pushing S&W out of state by impending legislation stoping them from production of there most popular products. The M&P style pistol and AR rifle.
The revolver is the only thing they can manufacture in MA.

Now they just need to get rid of the Hillary hole!
They need to put the firing pin on the frighten hammer where it belongs.
I looked at the “Classics” when they first came out (Mod 25 IIRC?) and was like WTF? The guy started apologizing about the Hillary Hole and I asked why the hammer wasn’t original? Classic my azz!

If they are moving headquarters, that would mostly mean Board Members/Upper & Mid Management/Admin?

That is the Cream of the Payroll... and Payroll Taxes.

The Blue-collar grunts who do the heavy-lifting probably make a mere pittance compared to those who are moving...

f*** MA and all Those stupid commies (including you RINO FAKER BAKER!) Good on S&W for moving! Sad for the people of Springfield that work there and can’t relocate.

S&W is the 3rd. Largest employer in the Springfield area. This will definitely be a problem for the area. This will also dwindle the tax base. Not good for an already depressed economy. The Casino in no way can make the difference in employment and tax base. As it is the city got jacked on the Casino originally it was planned to much larger and then the Casino Co. Changed the plan at the last minute and told Springfield this is what you are getting and if you don't want it we can move to another location

are economic productivity and employment deserved by the statist MA leadership? I sure don’t think so. Agreed it will suck for some families but just as many will now escape MA and move to TN.

when the beast grows extra heads, it’s time to starve it.

Are still talking about SW relocating to TN or did we switch to Len's "Divorce Advice"? Either way, it's spot on and equally accurate! 🤔

Major Kudos sir, major kudos.

Jay
My comment works for most everything. But I was referring to S&W moving out of Commiechusetts.

They run Cooley Dickenson in Northampton. OTOH, the big hospital in that area is Baystate Medical Center. They're affiliated with UMass Medical School and run a number of hospitals in the area. MGH isn't going to compete with that as there aren't a lot of feeder hospitals left.

maybe MGH will buy the property and expand way westward. Partners is on a growth spree right now.

^ THIS.

Modern corporate officers are entirely capable of moving an HQ
to a new location based on what suits them personally.

So they made it illegal to manufacture AR 15 rifle‘s in Massachusetts?

“Lawmakers decided to close that loophole and make it illegal to manufacture one of Smith & Wesson’s most popular products.”

Edit: I see they can still make them only if there sold to LE and Military only.

I wonder what that means for a smaller shops that manufacture parts for rifles that will be civilian owned?

Gun companies should team up and stop selling to L.E. agencies. Make the cops buy what we buy.

CLOSE THE L.E. LOOPHOLE!!!

Headline of Boston Globe’s article on this:

‘It’s just greed, that’s all there is’: Local officials question Smith & Wesson’s reasoning for relocating HQ to Tennessee

And its closing line:
“I hate to see Massachusetts lose jobs. . . . But these are jobs that are frankly leading to mass shootings,” he said. “Good riddance to Smith & Wesson, as far as I’m concerned.”

Want a good laugh or cry. Read people’s replies
On September 30 th Boston Globe article about Smith and Wesson moving to Tennessee and get a better understanding why this country is so f***ed up from these liberals
