Bold move introducing a new caliber in today's ammo world.

Currently there are several manufacturers supporting the new caliber to include Speer, Federal, and Remington. For defensive ammunition, shooters have their choice of 115gr Speer Gold Dot, or Federal HST, and Remington HTP in 100gr loadings. Full metal jacket choices include Federal American Eagle and Remington UMC in 100gr loads, or Speer's Blazer Brass in 115gr loadings. Cases are straight walled from promotional images. Rumors say we should expect roughly 1,200FPS on average from 30 Super Carry.

1200fps with 115gr from a 3.675” barrel sounds an awful lot like 9mm luger.

If it gets another couple of rounds per magazine, it could be worthwhile for some. Not for any non-LEO in Massachusetts though.

If anybody wants the 357-Sig variant of 30 Super Carry, just get a 30 Luger barrel for your 9mm.

Good point, what is the state of the 357 sig these days? Still a competitor in the carry cartridge sweepstakes?

Less scary than something with mm in the name. What will the 9mm guys do? Cartridge developed by Federal. Interesting. Any innovation is good. Can’t wait for the 9mm owners to be considered relics like us 45 shooters. Ha!
It's true, 357 SIG and 45 GAP now dominate the CCW market. 9x19 was abandoned after the P08...

Not much support for it. There seems to be promise with modern bullet designs like the LeHigh XD, which performs better with higher velocities. No real testing though and there is limited production of all 357 Sig related parts and cartridges because production time is focused on more popular cartridges during the past couple years of increased demand.

Seriously though, let’s just step right over 30 super carry and go right to its spicy cousin, the 30 Luger. It’ll be the new hotness in 5 years, just wait.

Sounds like a necked down 380 ACP case.. Why not compare 115 to 115 loads? They take the 100 grain load and compare it to a 124?

This will knock the numbers right out from under the 327 Mag that swept the world a few years back. Maybe a 380 Mag ?

But someone will buy them to be the first on the block to have the newest and greatest.

What are you talking about? I’m having trouble following your comment.

What sounds like a necked down 380 case? If you’re talking about 30 super carry, no. It seems to have a straight walled case, which is why it gets a couple more rounds per mag, compared to 9mm. If you’re talking about 30 luger, it would be more like 9mm necked down and not 380 necked down. But really 9mm luger is just a necked up 30 luger.

As for comparison of bullet weights, it sounds like 100gr is the “normal” weight for this new 30 super carry, and 124gr is the normal weight for 9mm defensive bullets. 115gr for 9mm is mostly for range ammo. But I don’t know what offerings they plan to have with 30 super carry in 115.

30 Super Carry Specs

New material from Federal has given us more insight into the performance of 30 Super Carry. Currently Federal lists their 100gr HST loading as providing 1250FPS, along with 347FT-LBS of energy, falling just 17FT-LBS short of their 124gr 9mm loading. The same 100gr load is claimed to gain roughly 15.5 inches of penetration with .530 inches of expansion in ballistics gel with a heavy clothing barrier. This exceeds Federal's quoted number of 14.5 inches of penetration for the previously mentioned 9mm HST.

30 Super Carry

Promotional material shows 30 Super Carry providing an additional two rounds over 9x19 for an equally sized magazine.
So this is essentially a redesigned 9mm that isn't 9mm clone to squeeze more 2+ rounds in compact guns that somehow is going to work in current shitshow of a supply chain. Does that really sound like a financially viable round to people?

The current three pistols offered in it don’t seem to benefit much. But I could see it being useful in a micro carry gun to maximize capacity and also make the gun 0.08” narrower, but without dropping down to the energy of 380acp. We’ll see if anybody comes out with a micro gun in 30 super carry in the next year or so.

I knew all the macho he-men here would sneer at this pistol and its cartridge. But you aren't the target market. The firearm is designed for elderly and female users, many of whom are buying their first handgun. An easy operating pistol with low recoil, that shoots a much better round than the puny .380, is a very good choice for them.

The EZ crowd aren’t the only target market. This new cartridge is meant as a 9mm competitor for everyone. It just so happens the EZ is one of only three handguns being chambered for it at its release.

Yeah this is beyond stupid IMO. They got some dumbass people working at Federal[laugh]
They ain't going to sell shit. Unless this ammo is super plentiful and cheap, no one is going to switch from their 9mm, 380 etc guns.🤦‍♂️
