S&W Customer Service

As far as I know, such magazines are not illegal to possess in MA (Provided you have a large-capacity license). They are simply illegal to purchase or sell in MA. At least that's what I've gleaned from reading the MA statutes and listening to the salespeople at the S & W Store in Springfield.

Salespeople at S&W Store are grossly misinformed

Unfortunately you have been misinformed. Here's the applicable MGL. It's pretty clear:
No person shall sell, offer for sale, transfer or possess an assault weapon or a large capacity feeding device that was not otherwise lawfully possessed on September 13, 1994.

High Cap Mags

S & W also sent me 17 round high cap mags for my M & P 9 mm. They were mailed from the factory to my home address in MA. You would think that they would know that a MA resident is not allowed to have high cap mags. I called the Retail Store the next morning. They told me to bring them in to the store and they would swap them out for the proper 10 rounds. Took care of that yesterday. Took about 5 weeks for the mags to arrive in the first place. Retail store people and Range Officers have also been pleasant, helpful and fine with me.
