I’m helping a friend sell a .22 1962 Smith & Wesson 18-2. 4” revolver. He’d rather sell it locally (without 30 miles of Harvard MA). I can list on Gun Broker but I’d also like to see it stay in MA. The gun is in great shape considering it’s 59 years old. It sat in a box for the last 25 years but thankfully someone gave it a little rub every now and again. I see them on GB for north of $600 but figured I’d ask here first. I’d buy it myself but weelies are not my thing. See attached pictures and let me know what you think. Thanks all.

The old ones fall into a niche market.
The old .22's................Depends. Good to have just to say "I have this" but thats about it.

Looks like its in real good condition. Dam near mint.

I'd say screw it and list it for whatever g.b. has for previous prices, see if it gets any hits. Some semi-aficionado would probably snatch that up rickki-tik

Does he have the original box too? Definitely put it on GB. All you need is 2 people who want it for the price to go through the roof. And since its C&R that makes it attractive to a wide audience.

Gun broker -> advanced search -> completed auctions

This will give you a decent “what’s it worth price”

The gun has been reblued and that should lower the value.
It was not done at S&W.
Look at the side plate logo and the side plate fit under the cylinder.
If lock up and and barrel are good it’s a great companion in the woods or toss it in the tackle box.

That side plate is a mess. Ask the blueing is a bit off.

Any idea how it shoots and if finding and lock up are ok?

One owner since new, no work done on it except pulling the trigger and cleaning it

That is in great shape and will bring a good price on auction. I've been collecting Smith's for over 40 years that's a nice example .

If you’re 100% sure it wasn’t reblued it might be worth trying to get some better pictures pulled together.

I bought one on GB a few months ago for $700. Manufactured in 1965. Very accurate with an excellent trigger.

This ^^^
And just to add -> Sort by Bids (high to low) otherwise you are potentially looking at guns that didn't actually sell but the auction ended. You need to pay attention to bid count

Take some better pics. There's too much reflection and shine in those pics. That's why the finish looks odd to some. Better pictures will bring bigger $$
