Russian soldier vs bullet.... to the forhead.

Actually it look like a mangled mild steel insert for 7.62x54R. These tend to ricochet off harder target and come back at you if you are close- 25-50 yards... I've seen it happen, with similar results.
 
Funny this should be posted, a guy that works for me was in the Soviet army. He was posted at the Chinese border. Apparently, Soviet soldiers were not allowed to carry loaded weapons on patrol in the area he was stationed. The Chinese, however, did not have the same policy. He has the 15 bullet scars to prove it, including one that hit him on the bridge of the nose. The guy's like 70 and can still put you to the ground by grabbing one finger. One of the hardest working people I've got.
