I will be receiving a Ruger 77/22 soon and need to find some good 100-150 yard glass for it. I'm looking to spend around $100. Admittedly I don't have much experience in this particular field so any help or recommendations would be extremely helpful. Thanks!

I have a Ruger 77/22 and I would recommend upping your price range. You will not get the best out of your 22/77 with cheap glass. I'm running a Nikon Buckmasters SF ( side focus) 4.5-14X40 mil dot in Warne rings. This is in the $300. range but well worth it.

Going to bump this- looks like some more expensive glass (upwards of $300) is a much more realistic range for this gun. I was looking at the Leupold VX-II 3-9x40 scope; does anyone have a better suggestion?

Mueller APV is closer to your original budget, and is a nice scope. Not as nice as a VX-II, though. I would prefer a higher end magnification scope for that rifle if it was mine, like -12 to -14 or so. I like magnifying the tiny targets I use for 22lr more.

If you can find one of the closeout Bushnell 3200/4200 series in a scope you want, those are some nice glass. Bushnell cleaned up their product line recently, and brought them together under the Elite name, orphaning the 3200/4200.
Vortex makes an adjustable objective crossfire, 4-12x40 - about the same quality as the APV. Nice scope, not a great scope. Swift might have something that would work in their Premier line, too.

If it were me scoping that rifle I'd be looking for an adjustable objective, upper end magnification of 12 to 16 power, 40-44mm objective, and ideally a mil-dot reticle. Check out the optics section on the RimfireCentral.com forum, or do a search here on scope for a 10/22. That seems to come up every other week.

I did some more searching and research- I REALLY like the Redfield line from Leupold. I was looking at either a 3-9x or a 4-12x. Do you guys think the 12x is too much for a .22 at 100 yards?

I think the 4-12x is perfect for a 22 at 100 yards. I'd get that before the 3-9x.

Had forgotten about the Redfield line, I remember hearing good things about them, but no personal experience. If their customer service is run through Leupold, or even like Leupold customer service, then I think Redfield would be worth trying. I would prefer an adjustable objective, but it's not a deal killer for me.

I just put a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 on my Ruger 77 in 7mm-08 for deer season, and I'm very pleased with it. Clarity and eye relief are both excellent. BDC reticle version cost me $149 installed at Bass Pro.

Ack, I'm conflicted. I did a lot of research on the Redfield line and I don't like what I see. Initial reports were okay but the more I looked into them the more people had to say about them being plasticky and not having a good feel to them.

I can justify the $280 price tag of the VX-II 3-9 (http://www.opticsplanet.net/leupold-vari-x-ii-3-9x40mm-rifle-scope.html) but not the $430 tag on the 4-12 (http://www.opticsplanet.net/leupold-vari-x-ii-4-12x40mm-adjustable-objective-rifle-scope.html). Any help?

After a lot of deliberation and himming and hawwing, I decided to pull the trigger on the Leupold. I found a $25 off coupon for Gander Mountain which brought the price down to $275. Should be here in a couple days. Woohoo!

Yup- As my father said, "There's a reason why I don't buy a craftsman chainsaw..."

And this isn't to say that it needs to stay on the 22- could always move to a different rifle if/when the time comes.
