I have a new SS Target with a Leupold scope. I wasn't planning on modifying this at all but after 1500 rounds (in 2 weeks) I'm thinking trigger job. Some shots go exactly where I wanted and some are a re little off. So it's either my breathing control, the trigger or both. I would like to keep it SS, so should I buy a new trigger or bring it to my local gun smith (Dave S) and say fix it?

You can do a very nice trigger job with the stock parts. Rimfirecentral has a page that describes how to do it (links below). I use a dremmel tool with sanding disc, polishing wheel, some emery cloth and rubbing/polishing compound.

This thread gives the basics:

Tip: Pay special attention to the trigger plunger a lot of the gritty feeling can come from this part rubbing on something.

This thread shows how to polish the hammer Be careful here, take small amounts off at a time, this is where the real magic happens (screw this up and you're buying new parts):

I bouhgt parts from Midway from Power and installed them myself very easy to do.
If you go to You Tube there are loads of videos that show you what and how to do it.

I'd either go with the VQ (have one, love it!), a KIDD, or a very fine polish job on the internals, to include (carefully) stoning the hammer/sear engagement. There are very detailed instructing on RFC on how to *properly* do it.

I just did this trigger job and polished all the steel. After grinding the hammer, the trigger pull is probably around 2lbs. I never thought it would be this good. Thanks to everyone who gave advice and tips on how to get a very smooth, light trigger. If anyone has any questions or wants to shoot my 10/22 let me know and we could work something out. This rifle was always everyone's favorite at the range and now it will be even better. [mg]
