SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A new lawsuit filed in San Mateo County court claims Roblox, one of the most popular online gaming platforms for children in the world, “provides a hunting ground for child sex predators.”

The lawsuit was filed by law firm Cotchett Pitre & McCarthy earlier this month on behalf of a 13-year-old boy who was an “avid user of Roblox and Discord.” Adults can use Roblox and Discord to contact minors through direct messages while pretending to be children, the suit claims.

On the San Mateo-headquartered company’s website, Roblox promotes itself and its millions of users as “the ultimate virtual universe that lets you create, share experiences with friends, and be anything you can imagine.”

Do you know kids pay to watch other kids play video games these days?

That's f'ed up. When we were kids we'd fight each other to play the game ourselves.

We would never give a cent to watch someone else play.

It helped that we didn't have any cents left after buying a gameboy, but still.

I don’t know how common that is, kids can watch others play for free on YouTube.

Not sure I believe the lawsuit has much merit. My kids and their friends have played Roblox for years, and nobody seems to ever make friends with strangers on Roblox. It’s probably just lawyers chasing ambulances.

FIrst off I know nothing about modern gaming and stopped playing games at James Bond on the N64.

My buddy was telling me about this guy.

Yeah, streamers aren’t paid by viewers they’re paid by the platform. So kids watch YouTube and YouTube pays the content makers based on the number of followers or views.

My kids have been playing that for years. I had the chat disabled until they were old enough to know a weirdo from another kid. In about 10 years of playing, I only blocked one person who may or may not have been a creep. I do read their chats once in a. While to double check.

I guess I’m saying I don’t think it’s as bad as the article makes it sound. No more dangerous than anything else online for kids.

A person I know who's job for the DA's office was prosecuting child sex crimes put it to me this way.
When you go hunting you go where the deer are . These people go where the kids are.
