Just heard that Kraft, or lawyer, just plead not guilty and has requested a nonjury trial. This was "breaking news".

Maybe it wasn't cheapness. Maybe he thought his best chance of not getting caught was to keep it on the downlow and anonymous, by going to an Asian massage parlor in a nondescript strip mall. The Asian workers probably would not be NFL fans and not know Kraft by name or sight, and he paid in cash. His downfall was the bad luck that he picked a joint that was being watched by the authorities. In contrast, a high end call girl or escort service could always blackmail him, or would be more likely to get targeted and busted, e.g. Heidi Fleiss.

Reason magazine (reason.com) is one of my favorite sites and it firmly libertarian. For those who want to read a story based on police records, not hype, I strongly suggest the following

Homeland Security and Florida Cops Spied on Chinese Massage Workers for Months but Still Couldn't Find Evidence of Human Trafficking

It looks like the cops were more interested in getting good press than solving crimes. How the hell do they justify holding the women involved on bail ranging from $200,000-$800,000?

yeah, they were probably getting "massages" on taxpayers dime as part of the investigation ... that figures why they were in no rush. What a bullshit job.

You would be amazed at what magic a lawyer making $2-3000 per hour can deliver.

Kraft will get out of this.

    $$$$ talks, and bullshit walks.

Workers inside normally would not see what kind of vehicle the customer pulled up in. We only know about the Bentley because it was all being watched and recorded by law enforcement. But even if the Asian workers saw the vehicle, he would just be another rich, white guy in an expensive car to the Chinese massage parlor workers. He wouldn't necessarily be recognized.

You are right but the damage is already done. Do you really think it will matter if he is found innocent on all charges? He's been tried and convicted in the court of Public Opinion.

That is the way for most of these high profile charges nowadays. There is no innocent until proven guilty. You're basically guilty from the start and guilty even if you happen to "get off". (Ha, pun intended)

what is there to prove? The transcript of police evidence is already published. I really doubt that cops made all that shit up, i.e. ugly ass woman going down on Kraft and wiping it later with a towel. You know what happened, I know what happen.

Legal technicality wont change anything. I'm sure that Kraft's high paid lawyers don't even have to come up with anything complicated, the judge will be bribed and will seal the record of the proceedings.

    What damage?

Kraft is STILL a billionaire, still owns the Pats, and can do whatever he wants.

    Reputation? HA

Apparently we don't know what happened, because the story by the police keeps "evolving." There doesn't appear to be any human trafficking component, there isn't any evidence of what happened inside involving Kraft. Also, if the cops went in and didn't get "happy endings" how do they know if anyone did. If they went in and DID get happy endings, then they broke the law too.

The case if falling apart and it's ironic that people here who attack every arrest the police make are now saying we're supposed to trust the police.

Coming from Soviet Union as you do, I can understand why you think judges are easily bribed, but that's not common here.

Oh and those legal "technicalities" that people complain about? Those are what the rest of us call "the Bill of Rights". It requires the state to prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt. I'd think that all of the soi disant libertarians here would applaud the rule of law.

Prosecutors offer deal to drop charges against Robert Kraft, other defendants

    [banana]

Kraft has not decided whether to accept the offer from State Attorney Dave Aronberg’s office, said the person who asked not to be identified by name. Kraft, through a spokesman, has maintained that he did not engage in criminal activity during his two visits to the Orchid of Asia Day Spa in Jupiter, Fla., in January.
    [laugh2]
The proposed resolution for Kraft and the other men would lead to what Florida authorities call “deferred prosecution” where a defendant can have their case dismissed and records expunged if they avoid any further brushes with the law for a fixed period of time.

The offer would also require the men to perform 100 hours of community service and attend a course about the social harm caused by prostitution and human trafficking, and pay court fees.

If Kraft really does get a happy ending with full expungement - he should take it.

If ANYTHING can damage his criminal history he NEEDS to pay a few million and go to court.

It is worth it for somebody like him.

I know if I had his money - I'd pay for a full exoneration.
