Rifles at Dicks

Paperwork is the same, although they walk you to the front door after you have paid before they will put the gun in your hand.
A buddy of mine bought a shotgun in the Nashua store & they acted like he was a 2nd class citizen the whole time.
I'll never buy a gun from them..

Im not sure if all stores have the same policies, but when I bought at the Danvers store, the manager had to look over the paperwork and then one of the employees carried the rifle out of the store and handed it to me on the sidewalk outside of the store. No waiting period or extra paperwork, just some weird b.s.

Well, aside from the NES prejudice against Dicks, and the (typically) unknowledgeable staff (which could imply further delays while they "check things") and THEN the "extra" info they like to enter into their cash register computer ("Name of first born? Social Security number of wife?? Credit card number even though you are paying with cash???"), THEN there's the "we have to walk you to the front of the store" nonsense.

I purchased a carbine this time of year at Dick's in Rutland, VT and kept my cool through the nonsense because the sale with coupons, etc, was just too good.

Good luck.

Is it a pain to purchase rifles from dicks? Or is the the exact same as a normal shop as far as the paper work and same day stuff?

No problems with rifles or shotguns from Dick's (Natick, Saugus). I've had good luck with helpful sales people. They are careful with paperwork, yes. I've gotten some good deals.

Bought a shotgun from Dicks. Couldn't beat the price but allow yourself at least 1 hour or more for all the red tape as only one person actually knows what to do and there needs a manager to check everything twice.

I bought a rifle and a shotgun at Attleboro Dicks MA. It was a pain in that ass and it took for ever. They had me do some extra shit, and fill out the 4370 3 times because I didn't fill it out properly. [rolleyes]

But, for the right price...

Have bought several long guns from danvers and really never had a problem. They have had the lowest price on 22s and shotguns several times.
i don't mind the perp walk. It's awesome to watch all the looks good or bad as you parade out with your new toy.

I bought one once from a very anti gun salesman in West Springfield.

Once you get over the fact that they are dicks than it's okay to deal with Dick's.
Stopped there three weeks ago.Wanted to buy ammo that was in the Sunday add. They did not have them in the large quantity (sold out).Asked for an equal quantity in the smaller boxes and was told the limit was one box per customer.Good thing my wife was with me,we purchased one each.Cashing out we had to show our LTC a second time, paid cash and that's when we had to sign the question on the register. ARE YOU A US CITIZEN?

it does take a while there but it has still been a decent experience and the people working there have been nice the two times Ive bought a gun there

I can understand why they don't want you to buy a rifle and then continue shopping elsewhere in the store. They'd probably soon be dealing with SWAT teams. BTW, if you are checking on their prices, DO NOT go to dicksdotcom.

The only two I've ever dealt with are Tom (young guy) and Ed (older guy). Both of them are awesome and will drop what they're doing to just to shoot the bull about hunting, targets, local news, etc. Not nitpicking, just curious to who it was, since I've only ever seen those two.

Not wanting to start two other threads:

1) I have no problem buying from Dicks with coupons and sales - COST THEM MONEY - buy everything else at a gun store.

2) These big box stores are missing a good market - do FFL transfers - as long as you buy $### of goods on the same visit.

2A) Not that I would go anyplace else than Kevin in Winchendon for my transfers anyway.

I thought the process was easier at Dicks than at a small gun shop although it may be a bit longer since the manager had to come over to verify the ID information. Not sure why people are butthurt over being walked out of the store but as long as your sales rep isn't a total dipshit then it's not a big deal.

I guess it might take longer, but I think that is due mostly to them having less people staff the gun counter than you would see at a LGS. Although, I've never had the luxury of having to take a deli ticket at four seasons. I don't think the paperwork took any longer. Someone mentioned they have two people check all the paperwork over... four seasons does that too... thats a good thing, IMO.

Staff was definitely less knowledgeable, but who cares. The only reason I'm buying a gun at dicks is because I know what I want and its on sale... I bought a rifle from them a few months ago. The guy was barely able to determine it was one of the ones on sale, and didn't believe that it was eligible for the mfg rebate. I made them give me the rebate card anyways, but the cash register was smart enough to automatically print it out.... just got the check yesterday.

The safety walk was a little silly, but again - don't really care.

Really? I bought ammo there and took out my wallet to pay. He says " Oh, you can pay for that at the front register". I was surprised that they would allow me to walk around the store at my leisure and then pay for the ammo when I wanted to. Bu then again, I have be conditioned to think this way. Damn you Massachusetts!

I bought a 10/22 their several years ago. The guy that sold it to me was great although not very computer literate. i actually helped him with the program. he did tell me he had to walk me out to my car with the gun. i said what if i walked here or took the bus, he just laughed.
I have purchased quite a bit of ammo there when it is on sale and I have never had someone walk me to the registers with it.

How do you guys feel about the perp walk when you buy something expensive at a store and they carry it to the front for you? You guys must go ape shit... [laugh]

ETA: Never bought a gun, bought a gun cabinet - it was great escorting that through the store. Ammo - I've walked to the counter myself. Didn't get offended by the US Citizen question. LTC #? Congrats, you have my LTC number. The local PD ain't tied into their system. Sure the NSA can access it, but if it's come down to that - I've got bigger issues.

Bought 10/22 Takedown at Dick's in Attleboro about 9 months ago. I messed something up on paper work and had to do a second copy. Sales guy had minor issue with computer. Found the older manager who runs that dept. to be very friendly. They did walk me up to the front register to complete the purchase. They didn't walk me to car. Guessing because the 10/22 Takedown is already in a backpack stored away. Didn't find Dick's process much different from Bass Pro in Foxboro.

My limited experience is that it takes noticeably longer due to less familiarity by staff with the paperwork and process, and additional paperwork and rules (ex. walk you to the front of the store, manager sign-off required).

Bought a Mossberg500 there once. It was on sale for a low price and it turned out that the box was marked wrong (even lower) so I got it for $220. However, the process took just shy of 3 hours with all the checking shit multiple times and no one knowing wtf they were doing. The sales guy had a short circuit because I wrote MA instead of Massachusetts in the residence box on the 4473.

I brought my wife's bow in there a year ago - they acted like it was killy death machine (the string was ****ed, so its not like I could put an arrow in) - SIR! SIR!!! PLEASE STOP!

huh?

What are you doing?

I uh was going to take this to the back to the Lodge and have it repaired.

Oh, well you can't carry it through the store like that.

Huh?

Coroprate policy. I need to take that from you.

When I went to pick it up, I paid, perp walked it out. A ****ing bow. WTF???
