The botched Fast and Furious operation was intended to track straw purchasers of firearms, but ATF officials lost track of the guns. One of the guns was later tied to the shooting death of a Border Patrol agent in Arizona and multiple other weapons were linked to crimes.

The program sparked a major fight between congressional Republicans and the administration during President Obama's first term.

And yet the government is worried about gun show loopholes? From where I sit it seems the government is the biggest offender of the LAWS they themselves create.

You're unsuitable!!! And hypocrites..

I read this earlier today, so thanks for posting it.

A .50-caliber rifle recovered from the hideout of drug lord Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán is reportedly one of the firearms lost by the U.S. government's gun-smuggling operation Fast and Furious.

Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) checked serial numbers of weapons recovered after the raid earlier this month on the Los Mochis house where Guzman was staying. They traced one of two rifles back to the ATF program, according to Fox News.

Federal officials are investigating how many weapons seized from the house originated in the U.S., sources told Fox News. The report noted that ATF agents lost track of 1,400 of the roughly 2,000 weapons it allowed suspects to buy in Arizona with the intent of tracking them.Thirty-four of the weapons sold through Fast and Furious were .50-caliber rifles, sources told the news outlet, which reported that Guzman placed guards on hilltops to shoot down helicopters.

In another article in Fox News, it reads as though the .50 caliber was developed/designed just to take out helicopters.

A .50-caliber is a massive rifle that can stop a car or, as it was intended, take down a helicopter.[/QUOTE]

I'm sure this will be right at the top of the news cycle right along with how it's now been proven that Hillary was knowingly sending above Top Secret documents from her private server.

Oh by the way, two of the guns recovered by the FBI after the Draw Mohammed shooting suspects were killed were F&F guns. I bet you saw all the coverage about that, too.

Interesting as the 50 caliber cartridge was invented 20 years before commercial helicopters became available. That is planning ahead...[thinking]

You can take down a helicopter with a .22 if you can get close enough to pop the pilot in the head.

So what's the point they're trying to make?

thank gawd it does not use one of those evil "clips" that all the newspeople want to ban!

We must stop these rash of .50 shootdowns of helicopters.

Sure .50 was invented to knock down helicopters. It was invented 20 years before the first helicopter as a proactive measure. (1918 vs. 1939)

oops props to Stumpjumper for pointing this out first!

I've said it a thousand times. "Fast and Furious" was designed to place the blame of guns in Mexico on the gun owner. Fortunately for us, and unfortunately for the Border agent, it backfired before it could be put into play.

Now back to the helicopter.
