Ridgeline 2025

It's nice they released the scheduled earlier. You can rent nods for a few hundred or so.

Dang I had no idea, might go that route to start. I want dual tubes but I only wanna pay single tube prices.

Need to make it through Christmas before I commit to a class. Definitely interested in their four day scoped carbine class though.

As I was waffling on signing up for these courses I would refresh the page and see the availability go down. That’s the only reason I sent it now, if I need to cancel I’ll take the credit towards a future class.

I literally want to buy a house up there just to take more courses there.

Yeah I started with a L3 Harris Gen 3 WP blem unit from Ultimatenightvision.com. They're about $2900 shipped and super high quality if you can get over the blems. Mine was 32+ SNR and 2300 FOM. They're released once a month and sell out within hours.

After about a year, I traded with some guy who wanted to downgrade to a PVS 14. I ended up with Nocturne Kantanas. L3 Harris gen 3 WP with 32 SNR and 2400 FOM. It was a pricey upgrade but not nearly as bad buying new and outright in cash.

You could help pay the mortgage listing the spare rooms as rentals.
For my two trips up I’ve had the hostel in Whitefield and the Thayer as my two stays and I wouldn’t mind someplace else lol.

I usually stay at Hampton inn, but stayed at Thayer once. I’m not a hotel snob at all, but that place sucks

I signed up for combative carbine in May. Has anyone here taken it that can tel me what people run for optics? I have an eotech xps on my rifle now, but I’m not sure about shooting out to 300 with it. I’ve never shot past 100. The only other thing I have now is an old strike eagle 1-6.

I plan to buy a better scope, but I was looking forward to the class to get some ideas on what that might be. I’m not completely sold on a nice lpvo vs a mpvo, or medium fixed power with separate red dot. I have four young kids so don’t get many chances to go shooting. I’m hoping to get everything I can out of the class.

I haven’t done cc but I took recce and there was a couple guys shooting eotech for that. We shot to 450 for that. Mostly just to show you what regular old ball ammo would do at distance vs match ammo.
I wouldn’t buy a new scope until after the course. It’s combative carbine. That’s eotech all day.
Check out some of the other guys stuff while your there.

I took it with an lpvo, id say the class was split evenly between red dots and scopes.

If I were to take it again I'd use the red dot. Theyll have you shooting at 300 with it easily

I just completed this class a week ago. I would absolutely run this class with a red dot over LPVO. There was only one instance where we shot beyond 100 yards and that was to demonstrate the AR15s ability to reach out to 400+ yards. You'll want a magnifier to pair with your Eotech. One with a QD mount would be ideal. A lot of the class was done 50 yards and in so it would be nice to take the mag off.

You can run a LPVO if you want to get comfortable with that plaform but this course is an introduction to foundational skills. I would run a red dot so you don't have to worry about eye relief, cheek weld and etc. Save that for the recce or scope carbine classes. You're just simply not going to fully realize the potential of a LPVO when most of the work is done at closer ranges.

You're absolutely right in that you should run the class with the gear you have. You'll find out what works and what doesn't for you. My revelation is that suppressors aren't as fun as they appear without gas mitigating features on your rifle. Gas in your face all day gets annoying pretty quick. Also, don't stand next to someone with a muzzle brake. Last tip is to find a way to hold at least 4 mags on your body. I ran a battle belt with two rifle pouches, a JSTA pouch that could hold a mag and a dump pouch. Some guy showed up with just a hoodie and sweat pants. He struggled a bit say the least.

Yeah suppressors are rough if you’re not set up right.
Flow though or oversized cans are your friend if you make no changes to the gas system. Alternatively short/long stroke pistons work better out of the box but you’re adding weight so ymmv.

I had a Trash Panda on the rifle I brought and the worst part was how much carbon build up there was that it seized the rifle the end of day one. Spent my night cleaning it and felt no shame leaving that in the hotel waste bin.
I’ll need to get a new gas block on it if I’m going to continue that combo.

I just signed up for the June Close Quarters Carbine class. I did the GOAL Tavor class at Maynard last year with a Ridgeline instructor. It was a blast and the instructor was great. Looking forward to the class and I can’t think of anything better to do on Father’s Day!

How was the recce course?

Hah same experience here. The amount of build up was shocking. The wet blow back was fun. It was 30ish degrees by the end of the day so it must have been condensation mixed with propellant, lead and smoke splattering my face. Someone should have warned me my suppressed rifle could squirt on me.

^agreed. I’ll add, I took spr twice before I took recce, I thought that was the best course. Recce is more 0-400. More fun. More gas pedal. SPR , you kinda want to shoot a rifle set up for that, 3-18 scope, match ammo etc. Reece is like, run what you brung, we’ll show you how.
That being said, there isn’t a bad course up there.

I ran it with an LPVO (primary arms 1x6 bdc). If I were to take it again I’d run it with a red dot.

To be more specific I’d likely run an 11.5” pistol with a T2, no magnifier, and a flow through can.

I’ll likely run that same setup for the night operator course as well, unless I pick up a longer upper.

Scoped carbine I’ll run my super duty, gonna get a vortex razor gen 3 1x10 mrad for that.

Thanks everybody for the replies. I’ll probably run my 16” with just the eotech. But I might keep my eyes open for a deal on a magnifier. I wouldn’t mind having one. I’m really looking forward to this class.

I actually have an 11.5” and a flow through can. But I have never shot with either and probably won’t have much range time before the class. If I can at least get it zeroed I’ll bring it. My free time has been all kids no shooting for the past 7 years. I’m looking forward to spending time shooting with kids soon. I have 4 boys and the oldest is about ready.

You’ll have time to zero it at the class if you want.

It’s 100 yard zero too, and they’ll explain why. It makes a lot of sense.

I wouldnt buy the magnifier just for the class, they may talk you out of thinking you need it by the end as well. Not that they dont have a use
