If enough people sign this petition the hughes amendment can be repealed, but about 2,000 more people need to sign it, we all know that the hughes amendment is based off of "facts" from movies and needs to be repealed. For those that do not know the hughes amendment is basically a ban on full auto firarms for civilians that was passed in 1986.

If you seriously think that 2,000 - or ever 20,000 signature on an on-line petition is going to get the Republican majority to hand the Democrats an issue like this that the media would eat up you are seriously deluded.

Civilian ownership of full autos is controlled by the NFA branch of the ATF but ownership is not banned. I own several and bought all of them after that date.

What the OP obviously meant by "ban on full auto firarms for civilians" was "ban on manufacture of full auto firearms for civilians" - something that most people who understand NFA34, GCA6 and FOPA86 would read into the statement by implicit reference.

I did not start the petition, and if that was all you had to say why did you even click on this thread?

You put your name behind "If enough people sign this petition the hughes amendment can be repealed, but about 2,000 more people need to sign it, ", implying that 2000 signatures would make a public policy difference,.

My point is that while petitions like this are harmless, one should not delude themselves into thinking they are helping change the system with this manner of participation.

I did not mean to make you think i was thinking that way, I said the amendment CAN be repealed, (it could be repealed at any time)but i did not mean that if 2,000 people sign this they will repeal the hughes amendment.

Yeah, good luck with that.

I'd like to see it gone, too, but the chances of it actually happening are somewhere around the chances of an anti-gun politician stepping out onto a sidewalk, then simultaneously getting blinded by a rainbow and then promptly gored/impaled by one of the 2nd amendment supporting unicorns you must be talking about.

That's not as unlikely as you think...

Please stop wasting everyone's time with silly BS like this.

Get a senator or Rep. to introduce a bill that we can support.

THEN start the petitions and phone banks we can get behind.

This ridiculous on-line petition nonsense accomplishes nothing while allowing people who won't and don't get off their lazy asses to feel like they are doing something.

ACTUAL political change takes a lot of work. And signing some jackass on-line petition is worse than mental masturbation. At least if I jack-off in my head I pretend to feel good. This doesn't even allow me the illusion of feel-good.

I dont think its possible to do anything right on this forum.

It's not that it's impossible, it's just the fact that we have tried everything...literally everything. We know what works, and what doesn't work. Petitions don't work, especially online petitions. They just waste time and bandwidth; essentially a useless list of signatures that will cross the desk of someone and end up in the trash shortly thereafter. We fight the fights that we know we can win. If you show up to a fair fight, you are not prepared.

They can be worse than nothing as they trick the signers into thinking they are actually accomplishing something.

While great strides are being made, now is not the time. A wise man once said,"Going after the NFA now is like asking a girl you just met in a bar if she's into anal sex".
