Don't look in any of those places! They will tell you the real value of that gun.
I'll give you $200.00. It is an old used gun [wink]

Another good site is www.jouster.com , they have a good section on the 1911/1911A1 pistol.

What kind of shape is this pistol in? Is it in NIB condition or does it have normal wear?

What is the box like?

Can you post any pics of this? If you can, I maybe able to help a little.

GaryZ,

I'd be willing to buy it, too... but let me point out something first. To someone else, it will be worth probably (I'm guessing) between $600 and $1500 (I've seen both values for a Remington Rand .45). But to you, it may well be worth an infinite amount, because it was your father's.

Let me put it in perspective: I fix watches for a hobby. I have an old Accutron that was my father's. He bought it at a garage sale and fixed it up (Dad fixed watches, too). My teacher keeps telling me "Sell it before it breaks and you can't find parts to fix it! You'll get lots of money for it! Your father wasn't sentimental about it; why are you?"

Of course Dad wasn't sentimental about it!! He got it at a garage sale! I'm sentimental about it because it was DAD'S! Dad is gone, and by wearing it it reminds me of him.

Don't sell it, Gary. Keep it.

Ross, that was put perfectly!

I'm with Ross here!

I am the proud possessor of a German Luger (with US Army papers authorizing my Father to bring it back as a war souvenir) and dress Nazi dagger that my late Father liberated from a German Army Major at the end of WWII outside Berlin.

There is no way that I would ever sell them and there is no way that I can put a personal value on these items.

I did bring them to a gun show once to show my friend Paul Dias and get a rough dollar value on them. I told Paul upfront that they would never be for sale as long as I'm alive. I've told my Wife that if I predecease her, she should turn them over to Paul Dias for auction.

Ditto. I've got an unfired Beretta M1934 (.380), which isn't particularly collectable and would most likely get me only a couple hundred on the market. However, my late father-in-law gave it to me (along with the capture papers) a year or two before he died. He got it from another sergeant when he was in allied headquarters in Rome. It was part of an previously unopened case of them that they "liberated" from Mussolini's headquarters across the street. I figure it will be worth a heck of a lot more to one of my grandkids some day.

rand

ok, taking all the advice given, even the 2 jokers w/ the $200/250 bids
haha nice try I looked at the sites listed, the 1911 forums seemed likes selling a gun was a no no there, so not too much on prices
I looked at the auction sites, and found prices from $400.00 to $1700.00+

the serial # is 2442xxx condition I would say is really good, normal wear
of course, now I can't find the box and 3rd mag, I know its here somewhere, but for the life of me, can't find it. I'm sure I'll find it the day after I sell it, but thats my luck

any other info or values are appreciated

thx

Oh I really want this.....
Lets see, if I sell my H&R Garand, Bushy DCM and.............

To post pics you'll need a "host". You can set up a free account at photobucket.com and upload them there. When you have the pics uploaded the code needed for the forum will be under the pic. There 3 formats under the pic, you want the last one that starts with

I will take some pics tomorrow night, and try the photobucket thing
if it doesn't work, I'll take you up on the offer to host the pics

thx

Sounds like a 214 spaceview... If it is PM me, I know a guy locally with the parts and the ability to fix it..

Darn, I just read the whole thing and was getting excited about seeing pictures of this 1911. Then someone had to go and point out that this thread is ancient! [hmmm] [laugh]

Sheesh...
