I wouldn't have predicted it two years ago, but Dan's decided to reenlist. Should be signing the papers today, or in the next few days. Here is is in his bhut, showing off his machine gun. I hate it when he rubs it in!

The future could be very dicey for the Military. Big cuts coming.

That's why it's a good idea to re-up now. Drawdown is coming. He gets a little bonus out of it, and the time he needs to advance rank a bit. He just made E-4, in under two years, and has an interest in going WO eventually.

While he is in, I would encourage him to take advantage of any and all tuition reimbursement, waivers, etc. I got out in 1991 when the market was bad, but wasn't nearly as bad as now, and without a degree, most companies wouldn't even talk to me.

I'm out of the loop on this stuff, but I would imagine that there are a huge number of people on stop loss orders and that they will be released before any other cuts occur.

He has accumulated quite a few college credits, and I hope he'll start pumping away when he's back in the US. He's an intel guy with TS clearance, which is helpful, but he knows that a 4-year degree is really required in the scheme of things.

Good job, Dad! I'm sure he appreciates every letter and care package you send him. Let him know how proud we are of him. Quite a few on this forum are intimately familiar with the hardships and challenges he's facing, and we admire his fortitude. Strength of character is not something you just pick up along the way - it starts with learning the right values at home. Good job, Dad!
