Red dot ALL THE WAY FORWARD mounting?

I like to mount them far enough forward that I can fit a flip to side magnifier behind them.

The one in the video is probably at the same distance from his eye as it would be if mounted on a pistol, so I’m sure it works fine.

The rifle won’t blow up if you mount an optic on handguard. Any inaccuracies all depend on how much force is applied to the handguard.
Yeah kid's ringing the gong all day long. I just don't do it that way cause I like to brace my shooting with a sling and it would pull the dot to the side way too much if mounted on a free float.

Pushing the dot forward forces you to look at the “big picture” and allows for quicker transitions as it is easier to see your next target. It also encourages you to look at the target rather than the dot. Also at longer distances the dot appears smaller and will/ might not cover the target allowing you for better placement.

Said that- it is a personal preference. Whatever works for you and feels natural. Do experiment and find your own truth.

If we’re talking ARs, I mount red dots as far forward on the receiver as possible. Helps reduce the profile of the optic so that you have better forward visibility and the body of the optic doesn’t obscure what you’re looking at. I don’t ever bridge optics with handguards/rails. Even on my M1A SOCOM, I have my red dot on the rail over the barrel.

Seriously considering mounting a Monstrum 5x magnifier behind a red dot and then a Monstrum 2x magnifier forward of the red dot making 5 x 2 = 10x all the red dot.
Those are rookie numbers. You need to mount four 5x magnifiers in succession there. Gives you about 625x magnification that way. :D

Should allow you to hit the moon. [rofl2]

I have a RMR on the top handguard of my Saiga AK-74 clone. It's cowitnessed with the irons also, which is slick.

Shoots great even though I can't really afford to feed it anymore.
