A bit drastic but something had to be done-careful measuring showed that we had just enough room for the sofa/bed to extend with exactly the space needed to be able to walk around IF two mounted seats were removed. We realized that alternative folding chairs would be needed and decided that this route would be better than the issue we had, in fact most any solution would be better. One swivel seat came out with not too much trouble- had clear access from underneath. Things got ugly with the second seat as the well rusted bolts/nuts were over the muffler and frame-no real good way to get a socket/vice grips on the nut so it was back inside to think more. After a few beers we decide to go nuclear and just disassemble as much as we can then cut the pedestal as close to the carpet as possible hoping this would give us direct overhead access to the grade 8 bolt hex heads- it worked. Time for a wet towel and the 4" grinder-an hour later with one disc and a drift pin its out.

Used whatever folding chairs we had and things worked perfectly last week at Cathedral Pines-Eustis, ME (this weekend is the last of the season by the way) . Two nights of intermittent storm predictions convinced us it was the right thing to do, rather it was the second best right thing to do, the best would have to never have gotten a stupid slide out to begin with. Sure things are on the snug side with the slide in but the situation is quite manageable and far more preferable than before and of course we still have the option to use the slide when weather permits. More importantly we know the slide is bound to fail mechanically and when this happens we will still be able to use the rv without major expense and even more major work.

The Mrs. decided that folding/swivel 'blind chairs' would be perfect and I am hoping that some here have experience with them and will be kind enough to pass on info
