Rattlesnake, uranium, whiskey found during traffic stop

GUTHRIE, Okla. (AP) — Police in Oklahoma say they found a rattlesnake, a canister of radioactive powdered uranium and an open bottle of Kentucky Deluxe whiskey during a traffic stop of a vehicle that had been reported stolen.

The traffic stop happened June 26 in Guthrie, about 30 miles (45 kilometers) north of Oklahoma City. Guthrie police Sgt. Anthony Gibbs told Oklahoma City TV station KFOR that police don't know why the uranium was in the vehicle or how it was obtained, though uranium ore can be bought on Amazon.

Gibbs says police also found a gun in the console and a terrarium in the backseat containing a pet Timber rattlesnake.

Gibbs says the driver, Stephen Jennings, was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, transporting an open container of liquor and driving with a suspended license.

Jennings remains jailed in Logan County.

Someone must have told him that snorting radioactive yellow cake dust would give him x-ray vision and super powers. Probably a YouTube video.

Where does one acquire powdered uranium?

    Asking for a friend.

ETA: Kentucky Delux? Not sure what that is. But if you can get powdered uranium, you can surely afford some decent bourbon.

Didn't you find it at the gun store next to the reloading supplies? That is where I get mine... I use it for making my bullets heavier.

Damn it. The radioactive kind. That’s how glock makes those exploding hollow tips! Learn something new everyday!

ETA: holy moly! You can buy uranium on Amazon. So that’s how the Iranians are doing it! Bezos is one evil sob.

ETA: be sure to use smile comm 2 a when buying it by the case!

He could have dug it up himself. Plenty of old
uranium mines out in the pacific south west.
It’s just a matter of pounding it into a power
from there. That’s assuming we’re not talking
enriched uranium here. That’s a different bag
of cancer and jail time, and rendition etc...

Funny thing is, you can refine it. Getting it to where Iran is going is hard. But.....

Pro tip: If you put the uranium in a blender or food processor, you can separate out the U235 from the U238. The U238 is heavier and goes to the bottom. Scoop off the useless U235 from the top, leaving the good stuff. Use that when you make your ammo. When fired from a powerful enough gun (ie AR 15), at a hard surface, the impact will force the U238 atoms close enough together that they will go critical. Instant micro nuke!

So there's more info on this one, I'm surprised the media was quiet about the gun

Logan Co. man allegedly driving stolen vehicle filled with uranium, a rattlesnake, and Kentucky Deluxe

GUTHRIE, Okla. - Two people were arrested after a traffic stop of a stolen car revealed the two had a rattlesnake, radioactive uranium, and an open bottle of Kentucky Deluxe.

Stephen Jennings is charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, transporting an open container of liquor, operating a vehicle with a suspended license, and failure to carry security verification form. Rachael Rivera is charged with possession of a firearm after a former felony conviction.

The traffic stop was made at 11 a.m. in a Guthrie neighborhood because the tag was expired. Jennings was in the driver's seat, Rivera in the passenger seat, and in the backseat, a pet Timber rattlesnake in a terrarium.

At about the same time Jennings told officers he had a gun in console, police learned the Ford they were driving was reported stolen.

"So now he's got a rattlesnake, a stolen vehicle, firearm, and somebody under arrest," said Guthrie Police Sgt. Anthony Gibbs.

Police also found an open bottle of Kentucky Deluxe next to the gun. To top it all off, a search of the vehicle revealed a canister of radioactive powdered uranium.

"When that happens of course, we call in a company that deals with that specifically and it`s taken safely into possession," Sgt. Gibbs said. "The uranium is the wild card in that situation."

The uranium hasn't resulted in charges. Guthrie police are still trying to figure out exactly what the suspects were going to use it for. There are no charges from the rattlesnake either.

"It happens to be rattlesnake season at the time, so he can be in possession of this rattlesnake because he has a valid lifetime hunting and fishing license," Sgt. Gibbs said.
