I took my Egyptian Hakim and French Mas 49/56 to the range yesterday. Had the place all to myself, not a soul in sight. Had a great time shooting these rifles for the 1st time. The Hakim is super acurate and the MAS is a brass chucker. Blew off a couple hundred rounds.
Sadly, I have to admitt that it does get boring after a bit. I need to find a range bud or maybe we need a postal match. Now that could be fun.

We should do a postal match.
Yup. First, what kind of rifle? Targets? Distance? Bench or off hand?
Check here http://www.surplusrifle.com/shooting/postal/10.asp
for how they ran this one at surplus rifles. They have targets there too or we can just use a standard NRA 100 yd target.
I'd be willing to do whatever to get this going, including running it and scoring. I've never done it before but I'm game.

Hey head honchos Mr Derek and Mr Tony, sirs-

Might I suggest that since there's interest and it'd be kind of a cool thing to do on a monthly or bi-monthly basis, that maybe You should give JonJ a sticky so he can announce and plan us some good ol' fashioned postal fun? [wink]

SR,

It's not just Derek & Tony that can make "sticky" posts.

I think that anyone who authored the original post can do this.

At any rate, I created a new thread with a "Sticky" under Competitions for discussion/planning of any Postal Matches.

Well it looks like this is going to take off. GREAT!
Now, we need input. Like I mentioned above we have to decide on how we want to run it. If everyone can take a look at the link I posted, we can modify what they have done at Surplus Rifles to fit our needs. Or if someone has experience or another link with ideas, let me know.
The more input the better so no one gets left out.
Hopefully we can get this going in the next couple of weeks.
Jon
BTW: Thanks for the sticky Len.

Jon & SR,

You're both welcome. BTW, only Derek is Admin here, all the rest of us are Mods. So "sticky" or "announcement" can be designated by any of the Mods.

I am curious if the OP can also do it, as I think I have done so on some other forums that I am just a plain user (but I don't recall if they use the same forum software or not).

As for the Postal Matches . . .

The C&R FFL eList ran a number of Postal Matches a few years ago. Folks just reported their scores and details into the person who set it up. I don't recall any other details, as I never participated in them.

Jon, the setup of the Postal Matches might be archived from the C&R FFL eList, but it looks like searching it could be a huge project! Asking on the eList for details on how it was setup might get you info you need to put this together?

Whatjustacottonpickin'minute here...

You want me to compete in a postal match with Tony *and* Derek, both of whom got back from Camp Perry??!?!?!?!?

So, then, the real competition is for like third or fourth place?

:D

Why do you think I said I'd wait for the pistol match Jay? [lol]

Len, it looks like surplusrifle.com has a pretty good system going. It may need to be fine tuned at some point but looks like an easy way to get this off the ground.
The sticky is taking off with all kinds of good ideas.
At some point, the "Postal Matches" may need their own category in the index.
This is gonna be fun!

Jon, new categories require the Boss (Derek) to do. Mods do not have the "power" to do this. :)
