The most racist people I've ever met, and I mean really hard-core racist, were Irish democrats from Southie.

I grew up in an all-white county in rural Arkansas. I heard the n-bomb dropped casually, but never any actual hatred.

Then I went to a state university, and two guys from Philadelphia would drop it openly and with active hatred, not just casual dislike. Even the people from the functionally segregated Delta region of the state were a little shocked.

These two went on to get Army commissions through ROTC, even.
