If you pull back the charging handle so you see the open chamber and then release the bolt catch so the bolt springs forward without a bullet in the magazine will this damage the gun in any way?
I don't know, charging on an empty mag might let the fun out...Only if you freeze it in liquid nitrogen first.

I'm confused as to why you'd have a bullet in your magazine, and not a cartridge.
That Magpul stuff adds up, ya know.saves money on the other components.
