So, my poor prostate ain't getting any smaller and I'm pissing more than what I would like. I look on Amazon for these magical pills which they say will help. Problem is that there are about 200 brands. Any of you old timers with similar issues take anything that works? Thanks, Jack.

Save your money as they do not work. Go to an urologist and get a script for FlowMax.

None of the Saw Palmetto versions worked for me.
Flomax is available as generic tamsulosin.
0.4 mg Rx got me down to one visit a night.

    Have you had PSA testing?

Prostate cancer affects one out of seven men over 50. If caught, survival rate is 99%. If it spreads outside, prospects are much worse.

Have had PSA testing for many years with OK results. My regular doctor won't do it at my regular checkups. Says they don't do it after a certain age. I tell him to screw off and my urologist does it and Medicare picks up the tab. Jack.

This "after a certain age" is based on the concept of "well, you're going to die soon". My father was considering skipping the rectal probe when in his 80's because of the age thing. He decided to go for it anyhow; a colon cancer was discovered; successfully resectioned and has had no known cancer recurrence.

I don’t drink anything after 7:30 pm and cut the caffeine to 1 in the am.
The saw palmetto didn’t work at all for me.

Can’t speak to what meds do work,
    Getting old ain’t for pussys.

    Stay strong,all the best.

Good for him. I lost my bout with rectal cancer early in round 2 in 2005. My rectum was shipped off to the Concord dump via UPS. Knock on wood, so far, so good. Jack.

    Found this on Wiki:

    Combination therapy
The results of the CombAT (combination of dutasteride (Avodart and tamsulosin, under the brand name Duodart) trial in 2008 demonstrated that treatment with the combination of dutasteride and tamsulosin provides greater symptom benefits compared to monotherapy with either agent alone for treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. The CombAT trial became the medication Jalyn. It was approved by the FDA on 14 June 2010. This combination can be useful as it can take up to six months for any symptomatic relief to be found by 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors such as dutasteride compared to alpha-1 receptor blockers which can provide relief in some cases within 48 hours.

My dad is now 87. He caught prostate cancer in his early 80s. The doc told him at his age leave it be, odds are something else will get him first.
He got many other opinions, and chose radiation treatments. The collateral damage to his bladder, bowels, and general wellness has made the years since the radiation extremely miserable, on top of all the shit that just wears out when you are sneaking up on 90.
    But his psa is great.

Well, I'm only 84 and the sons and grandkids are not yet drawing straws for my guns, but they are probably giving it some thought. Jack.

I was 59 when I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. Had Brachytherapy done and the recovery was at most 5-6 days. I have a blood tests for PSA as directed and my PSA is always less than 1. I have no side affects and really couldn't even tell you I know I had it. I consider myself to be extremely lucky I did this as soon as they caught it. Was in only 2.5 sections of the 6 that they did in the biopsy. I was on Tamsulosin for maybe 4 months and slowly weened off of it. Everything works normally and at 66 I maybe get up once a night to relieve myself and that's only cause I sleep like crap and am awake anyway 2-3 times a night.

    Glad you are doing well!
My dad had the LINAC, where they shoot the radiation at a target. I dont think they can avoid hitting in front or behind the target, so you have to hope nothing important get radiated, i guess.

LOL you want pics of WHAT? I'm pretty sure I'd get a suspension if I posted what looks like 2 golf balls in a wet brown paper bag on here.

any prostate operation you get is going to have bad side effects. Had mine cut out by a robot, and kept peeing my pants a little for about 6 months. They do not tell you...the prostate acts like a muscle/valve that keeps your urine from escaping. You need to train backup muscles to do its job when its gone.

I have heard that a boston hospital is using some sort of ultrasound now for prostate cancer. I would check that out if you get the big C.

as far as letting the prostate be, when you know it has cancer because "it is slow". my sister's bf did that...and ended up dying a horrible painful death as the cancer aggressively spread thru his entire body.

Aging sucks but it sure beats the alternative. I would be remiss in my postings if I didn't add this.

In many of these radiation surgeries, the trick is to shoot from many angles, with the intersection point being the target.
That way area outside the tumor gets a smaller dose of radiation that the tumor itself. He was lucky if he got insurance to pay for the LINAC rather than cheaper therapy.

See a urologist soon. Been there, done that. Had the surgery and no looking back. Your PSA Test could save your life.

Go to a urologist that allows you to pick from his collection of Tom Brady Super Bowl rings.

Don’t get the green light procedure.
It gives you a green light to go but you’ll be changing your pants daily and underware a few times a day.
    Nothing like a leaky penis.
