I friend of mine bought a house at a foreclosure sale and found a couple of pistols in the attic. He has a MA pistol permit. I believe that if he want to keep them he needs to file an FA-10 for each one, is there any special wording he would need? If he wants to sell them he can just bring them to the nearest MA FFL.

Can someone with knowledge please confirm or correct?

Thank you

Fill our the FA-10s and check the box labelled "registration". Sell them as you would any other firearm, either FTF using an FA-10, or through a dealer.

What happens if the previous owner wakes up one morning and realizes he lost his guns? He may go to the PD and report them stolen. What happens if the gun is registered to you, is reported stolen by the previous owner, and there is no FA-10 documenting the transfer between the previous owner and you because you just found them and registered them?

Or what happens if they are already stolen and/or were used in the commission of a crime? You are found in possession of them for whatever reason, Im pretty sure he would be screwed.....

Your friend came by them legitimately, I'd say. their previous history is not part of his chain of custody. If you buy an item or two (say bike and a TV) at a police auction of recovered goods, are you in posession of stolen items? Well...they were stolen at one point, which is why the cops have them...but you acquired them legally....

IANAL, but worst case I can see is that the original owner might get them back...
