I loaded up some 44 mag using brass from a box of PPU 240 gr JHP ammo I shot a few months back. Nice shooting ammo and very accurate. But after resizing and expanding, I can push/seat the bullet with my thumb. The bullets just drop right into the case.
My resizing and expanding die are properly adjusted as I've loaded 1,000+ 44 mag loads without any issues until using PPU brass. I have just about every headstamp you can think of for 44 mag (Rem, Win, Fed, PMC, Starline, S&W, Browning, Midway, Sierra, Norma to name a few). All other brass headstamps have plenty of bullet retention except for PPU. Not the end of the world as it's only 50 cases so I'll just throw them into the scrap pile. If anyone is curious, I did adjust/unscrew the expanding die for less expansion which didn't help at all. These are Hornady dies BTW.
I've reloaded PPU brass for 30-06, 7.62x25, and 9mm without any issues. I'm guessing the case wall thickness on the 44 mag brass is thinner than other brands of brass resulting in a loose fit? I'll measure it when I get home tonight. Just curious if others have had similar problems with 44 mag PPU brass.
