Powder coat vs. Hi-Tek

case length avg .89
Load bullseye 4.6 grains
Avg bullet weight is 232 grains
COAL = 1.22 to 1.23
Mold Lee 452-228

I can run some over a chrono.
Running the same bullet with CFE Pistol with no issues.
COAL: 1.190
POWDER: 5.6g CFE Pistol
Three coats of HiTek bronze

If you have a slow pistol powder, try that as a data point

So I forced myself to go to the range yesterday and I pushed about a hundred through the gun pretty quick. The leading was through pretty much all of the barrel. I pulled a bullet to check the crimp and it was barely noticeable. I also did a run test and a smash test and passed on both of them.

Those are the particles I got after I ran some Chore Boy through the barrel. Some pretty good pieces came out. These were sized to .452 over 4.6 grains of Bullseye with a length of 1.220.
The more i see your pictures the more it looks like your leadinv does not start heavy to about midway then tapers off to the muzzle?
My thoughts are , not enough obturation ? Barrel has a tight spot where leading starts? To hard of a alloy then maybe wrong size?
i already know my bullets are a bit small for my 1911 so I cast the lowest BHN (per art pencil test thats around 8-10bhn) I have on hand and push them just hard enough to cycle. Which is clays at around 700fps
Here is my 1911 after 500 rounds with known under size bullets, harder than needed alloy and pushing them a bit closer to max.

Shot more today and I ran some FMJ’s to help remove lead. I pulled some some out of the banking. On average they were clocking at 800 FPS.

The pool test was very tempting.... but I ran two out the gun with a 1/2 grain of Bullseye. They bounced off the blanket I shot and I measured them and they came back at .451 and they were sized to .452. The round nose was from my very first batch that I melted down.

We’re these all coated in the same batch? The RN seems to have stripped right off. The SWC seems fine.

I mixed up a new batch of color and I’m going to cast some new bullets and make sure every step is good to go and keep the batches separate. With my Covid free time I may have mixed a bad batch or something. The last time I baked I did two 10 pound batches that I loaded and mixed together. I shot the rn and the SWC at a slow speed so I could recover the bullet and measure the diameter which came back a .451 which was the same as when I pounded the slug through the bore. The rounds literally bounced off of a blanket.
