In the dim light of the gunshow, the stock just looked brown and dingy--but in the sunlight the grain starts to pop.
 
I've never seen birch like that; it's almost pre-camouflaged. I'm surprised they made it into a service gunstock, rather than a table leg. Nice find.
 
Do you plan on cleaning and oiling it? I would love to see some pics with it cleaned up. The big question is, do you have the rest of the Garand to put in the stock? :)
 
I do own some Garands--and I'll be curious to see how the stock shoots.

Most likely I'll hold off on anything but the most basic cleaning until I have other matching pieces in hand, then refinish each piece with an eye toward bringing them together, blending each piece into the other (if that makes any sense).
