The 26th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution

This was very poorly thought out at the time.

Sorry, but the majority of people under 21 have a very poor concept of reality.

And are STUDENTS that totally screw up every issue in the unfortunate cities that host Colleges and Universities.

If you aren’t mature enough to drink or smoke you are not mature enough to vote. Also raise the age for the military too. 21 you are now an adult.

Unfortunately most of 21 year olds these days are too stupid to vote either, doesn't matter if you're 21 or 18.
I say - if you go to college - raise to 27; if you don't go to college - 21.

After RBG joins McCain in hell, POTUS should totally issue an EO to this effect.

Restoring the Voting Age would be an extremely significant factor to restoring sanity to the Nation.

I'd be happy with 18 but as long you have to full time employment to ensure skin in the game.

Overheard some pointy heads in Cambridge talking about this the other day. If they are for it, it has to be bad for me some how

They seem to be clamoring to give up other rights. Why not voting?

    Wow.

If only we could come up with some "pointy-headed" reason that they'd agree with.

I'd not go so far as to raise the age for military service as it usually instills alot of responsibility in young adults.....far more than any acedemic institution(read communistic indoctrination centers).

I'd actually do away with the parental concent at age 17 clause for joining the military.

Should be more than just age:
Should be a complex matirix taking into account many things including, but not limited to:
    Civics Exam
Education level and/or Work experience (life experience sufficient to show that you can make your own choices)
Do you pay taxes? (skin in the game)
Are you on welfare? (you shouldn't be able to vote yourself more money)
Do you have kids, or family? (do you have a vested interest in what goes on after you are gone? Not everybody wants/has kids)
    Military service
Can you read and write and understand English?
Do you swear allegiance to the USA?
    Are you a US citizen?

I understand the sentiment but most of the flaming moonbats I know are post 50 years old. I'm not 100% convinced age has as much to do with it as one would think.

Yes, because most all things dangerous require the person to be 21.
Whatever happened to the age of 18 being an adult? You can go and get killed/kill or get f***ed for your country at 18. Why is everything else different?

How about a minimum IQ vs a minimum age? Or is that racist?

Raise it to 25. Thats the average age at which the human brain finishes developing.

So we should change the voting age because americans now suck at raising their own kids?

IMHO way when they first increased the drinking age that actually made things worse, not better.

Age isn't a guarantee of actual maturity in any sense of the word. Look at all the bluehairs that get their cars stuck on bollards (because they can barely drive and refuse to give up their license) and reliably vote "D is for democrat" in MA all the time...

    :) Thanks.
I know it won't, it was sarcasm of course, pointing to our colleges who destroy our youngsters :(. Luckily I did a much better job than the liberal university in a liberal town in a liberal state that both my daughters attended/attend to :D (UMass Amherst).

Not that I agree with changing the age to do things, but at least there is a good reason here, as opposed to just a mostly if not entirely arbitrary age like 21 or 18.

Forget the age, let's bring back property ownership as a requirement.

No, mandatory service is not the way to go. It is beyond any doubt that all volunteer forces are far better than mixed or all conscription forces.
Society has a parenting problem.....even deeper than that, society has an INTEGRITY problem. When people grow up among people with little to no integrity, they become a product of that. When they grow up with one parent missing(most usually the father) the ease of which they slip into a life of no integrity is magnified many fold.

Most teenagers and twenty somethings really NEED the shit kicked out of them a couple of times to allow them to realize that they are just petulant fvcking a**h***s and they are not the top of the heap that they think they are. To most of them, words mean nothing because they are not smart enough to even understand common/real language.
