[h=1]Police: Hartford Man Who Shot Alleged Robber 'Adamantly' Believed He Was Reaching For Weapon[/h]HARTFORD — An employee at a Franklin Avenue bakery who shot and wounded a man who allegedly tried to steal a tip jar from the shop's front counter told police he fired a shot because he believed the would-be robber was reaching for a gun, according to court documents.
Lemuel Arzola-Franco said he was in the kitchen of Barranquitas Bakery on Tuesday morning when he heard the store owner, who is also his girlfriend, and her brother screaming and calling for him, according to a police incident report. Arzola-Franco said he looked up at the shop's security camera and saw a man dressed in black standing in the front of the store.
Arzola-Franco told police he grabbed his pistol, for which he has a valid state permit, and headed for the front of the store, the report says. By the time Arzola-Franco got there, the man in black had fled with the owner's brother, Juan Torres, chasing after him. Arzola-Franco said he was told the man had tried to steal the tip jar from the front counter, the report says.
No charges have been filed against Arzola-Franco.
