Places you can't carry in MA

I suspect our soon to be governor Healy will be doing end runs around the SCOTUS decision to curtail NY restrictions. We will see a lot of legislation limiting public places where firearms are allowed. She is not going to give up her agenda anytime soon.
I dont think so, at least not at first.

I think she cares more about online purchases and "assault weapons".

That means I'd have to watch Longmire. I saw one episode and was not impressed.
Hey, he carries in Condition 2.
Not many guys do that.

Never heard that about casinos. Of course I've only been to a casino in MA once just to check out the Encore not too long after it opened.
Went to encore this past oct. No frisking, no detectors anywhere in the place. Even in the nightclub with a bunch of ghetto goblins in line, no checking for "weapons".

This is why you can't trust carpet baggers from the o' so great state of New Hampshire they move here and enact frivolous gun laws. I just don't know why we can't have a border law for those coming from New Hampshire that they can only stay here for no more than 30 days!
I believe it was Oregon, before they went nuts, that had a sign facing California, "Welcome to Oregon, Enjoy your stay, Then go home!"

Yes it is illegal in MA to POSSESS a firearm on ALL casino property. I have posted it before. It is 205 CMR 138.20

Likewise, it is illegal to possess a firearm on Massport airport properties unless it is in a locked case for checking in to a flight. It is 740 CMR 30.04-.05
Thanks Len.

Fortunately, CMRs don't have quite the same bite as MGLs, but they are still real.

As to Massport - the CMR requires you to check you firearms and explosives with the MSP for the duration of your visit. Visions of C.D.Tavares demanding the Phoenix (I think) public library honor their obligation to check his gun (a requirement in AZ when a govt facility bans guns) come to mind.

wow. That is news to me. I'd never doubt you, I'll have to go read that. I find it odd because MGM Springfield is private property. I'm pretty sure I might have accidentally....oh nevermind. [smile]

Yup. You'll get trespassed if they catch you, but you can carry in a casino no problems.

Pre-parking lot shooting I'd carried in encore many times. They have a metal detector now, so instead of leaving my gun behind I just don't go.
No metal detectors that I could see

Multiple signs prohibiting firearms (elevators, all the signs about masks recommended said no firearms)

The signs quote a CMR

Another sign said no firearms all subject to search.

They ID checked 50% of people. They scanned 25% of people

here:

205 CMR 138.20 - Possession of Firearms

(1) The system of internal controls submitted by a gaming licensee in accordance with 205 CMR 138.02 shall include a policy prohibiting any person from possessing a firearm within or upon the premises of a gaming establishment. If the gaming licensee learns that an individual possesses a firearm within or upon the premises of a gaming establishment, the gaming licensee must immediately notify an official within the on-site office of the IEB and the individual violating the policy shall be removed from the premises of the gaming establishment by officers assigned to the Gaming Enforcement Unit. Thereafter, the gaming licensee shall promptly, and in any event no later than 48 hours of such removal, or violation of the policy, notify the Chief of the Gaming Enforcement Division of the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office.
(2) Notwithstanding 205 CMR 138.20(1), the following individuals may, in the course of their official duties, possess a firearm within or upon the premises of a gaming establishment:
(a) A member of the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Gaming Enforcement Unit;
(b) A law enforcement officer of the host community police department assigned to work at the gaming establishment pursuant to the memorandum of agreement required to be executed in accordance with M.G.L. c. 23K, § 6(f);
(c) An official who is specifically authorized to do so by the commission or the IEB; and
(d) A federal law enforcement officer.
(3) Any law enforcement officer in possession of a firearm, other than a member of the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Gaming Enforcement Unit, shall provide notification to an official within the on-site office of the State Police Gaming Enforcement Unit at the gaming establishment prior to arrival or upon arrival at the gaming establishment. This notification shall be documented with the onsite office of the State Police Gaming Enforcement Unit.
(4) The gaming licensee shall post in a conspicuous location at each entrance to the gaming establishment a legible sign that states:
"No firearms are allowed within or upon the premises of this gaming establishment. This prohibition extends to all areas of this facility: public, non-public, restricted, and non-restricted areas. Persons violating this restriction will be removed from the premises and subject to further investigation and, if appropriate, prosecution. If you have any questions about this prohibition, please request to see an official from the Massachusetts Gaming Commission Office before proceeding.
Certain law enforcement officers may be exempt from this prohibition; however they must notify the Massachusetts State Police of their presence by either visiting the Massachusetts State Police Gaming Enforcement Unit Office on-site or by calling the State Police Gaming Enforcement Unit at [number to be provided by the IEB]."

so the special rights cops have to carry everywhere off duty don't apply to gambling establishments?

Is it really "illegal"? Sure, the CMR states that the casino must have and post a "no firearms allowed" policy, and the casino must remove anyone found with one while reporting said person's possession to the authorities. However, from what I can see, the CMR contains no direct prohibition on individuals carrying on the property nor proscribe any punishment for doing so. It just says if they find you, they toss you.

Am I missing something?

No, the way I read that is the same as you, they must have a policy, and they must trespass you if you are found in there. That does not make it illegal to be there with a firearm, and it does not seem to allow them to do anything to you except ask you to leave.

I don't know what Len is seeing in there that would indicate it was illegal simply to possess a gun there, but there may be something in there I am missing.

CMRs sometimes have penalties proscribed, but they are generally non-criminal and don't bring risk of a "PP for life" scenario. What is undetermined at this point is how a report to your issuing authority that you violated that CMR would have on the evolving definition of suitability as applied in MA. Realistically, this was a favorable scenario compared the alternative of MA getting the mode of updating the law to create more carve-out zones.

No metal detectors at the Casino in Springfield or if there are they don't work. Concealed is concealed. My wife loves to go to the casino and sometime I will accompany her. Not to gamble I do not derive any pleasure from gambling but to keep her company while she losses money. She likes to play this card game Let It Ride. She has a good time losses some money and never questions anything i purchase win win for me. Back to guns in the casino there are no signs so as long as you don't flant it I guess it is ok.. I have never had a problem
Last time I went in for work related reasons I noticed a sign. It didn't change my mind but I did see it.

I was wondering the same thing, doesn't say it's explicitly prohibited for an individual to carry, only that they have to have a policy & report it. Kinda half assed way of doing it.

The wording is curious, as is mandates the casinos to have a no guns policy, but does not provide a penalty for breaking it.

So the gaming establishment means the building I suppose as opposed to the gaming floor. In Springfield, you can you can enter the building to go see a movie and never set foot on the gaming floor.

I was thinking about this today. I don't expect that much will happen before the election, but next January the legislature will introduce a bill widely expanding "sensitive places." That will likely include all state buildings, all county, city, and town buildings, all hospitals and medical facilities licensed by the state, the MBTA and all other transit systems in the state. Probably others I'm not thinking of as well.

Not necessarily - they may actually realize this is a non-issue (the media last reported only 4% of licenses were restricted, my figures from a few years ago was 92%). This is not like NY where the situation goes from VIPs only to large number of commoners.

too bad the Republican Party could sue the state just like Elizabeth Warren‘s daughter did to include voter registration in welfare recipients mail. But to Concealed license holders

And they were restricted to stupid sh*t like "range" ... so you could still get on a train with your gun to go to the range. (Unless the MBTA was already no go).
