The thread “When is lethal force justified ?” Got me to thinking about why we would do this. What follows below are not my words but the first post from a thread on another forum. These words were written by a lady who goes by the screen name of Pax. She is one of the moderators on another forum and I asked her permission to post her words here for further discussion. (Link to entire thread at bottom of my post.)

What, if anything would you do differently and why ?

My wife and I had a discussion about this subject shortly after we met. She and I are in complete agreement. We will not cooperate with thugs, we will not go quietly we will not permit harm to come to our child and we will resist until death if necessary. Either of us will take the shot.

Awhile back, I decided I will fight back against even "impossible" odds under certain situations:

1) I will not go anywhere at gunpoint. If the bad guy wants me to go somewhere else, it's because he wants to do something to me there that he is unwilling to do to me right here, right now. Therefore, right here, right now is the best chance to fight back I will ever have.

2) I will not be tied up. If the bad guy wants to tie me up, it is because he wants to do something to me that I would be able to stop him from doing if I weren't tied up and helpless. Therefore, I will resist before I become helpless.

3) I will not kneel. No one is going to execute me. If I die, I'll die fighting.

4) If someone tries to take one of my children, I will fight even at the risk of my child being killed by the bad guy in the resultant firefight. I plan this not because I'm positive I would be successful, but because I would not be able to live with myself if I simply "allowed" my child to be taken, brutalized and tortured, and his body perhaps never found. I'd rather watch him die in front of me. (Yes, that's harsh ... but given those two options and only those two, which would you choose? Are you sure?)

There are other items on my list, but those are the main ones. What are yours?

As I tell everyone, if your in my house at 2am ignoring the barking 100 lb lab your not there to do nice things to me and my family.

You sometimes have to weight is going to prison worth it? When it comes to the safety of my family it is without a question worth it. Got to love this liberal state where they tend to reward criminal activities. "Crime doesn't pay, unless you live in Mass." should be the new motto.

I don't know if its so much about rewarding criminal activities. Justtice
systems in most of the US fail in one way or another. The whole concept
of the thing only really is there to keep marginal people in line.... the system
itself will never completely stop crime, thats pretty much a pipe
dream. There are countries in the world who cut off peoples hands for
stealing things, and yet, they still have problems. So making the system
more fascist doesnt really do a whole lot. (Eventually law of diminishing
returns kicks in... and then the negative effect on society of overzealous
prosecutions creates a whole nother set of issues. )

The worse problem is the fact that the system is set up to try to "auto railroad"
someone who uses deadly force for the purpouse of self defense. This even includes
the police. Not too long ago a trooper shot some guy that was trying to run him
and another officer over with a motor vehicle... and of course, guess what.. there's cries
for a full blown spanish inquisition on the cop. Any free state would have probably
cleared the guy inside of 24 hours without a lot of discussion. Not here!

So coming in, everyone has to go against that.... But thats just part of the territory.
Worrying about it excessively doesnt do us any good. (Although moving out of this
socialist hellhole might be a good idea... it gets unnerving knowing that you live
somewhere, where the states support of your self defense is very weak, at best).
The only saving grace in this state at all is the jury trial system.... at least if you
can present a solid defense, and introduce doubt.... in ONE person... then
you will survive, albeit with a hole burned straight through your wallet due to legal fees.

I think when the chips are down most of us will do whatever we have to, to
survive. (or protect our families, for that matter). A lot of the legal
issues are what happens later. Of course the most sound piece of
advice anyone can heed is to avoid trouble at all costs... to begin with.. it's
far better to avoid the situation beforehand if at all possible.

Bore.224 thing is this state is so FUBAR and where Criminal Justice has a completely different meaning than the rest of the country, we would have to weight our options. I mean if a burglar is in the house and he's on his way out of the door with a TV and makes a sudden jerk that startles you and you drop the guy.

The guy is committing a felony no question, but its obvious overall he is just a burglar and is on the way out. If it comes back that this guy doesn't do 'violent' crime, only steals stuff chances are you could get nailed for it and instead of watching your kids growing up in person you get updates from their mom while in prison serving your time over a TV.

I have not ever been in a shooting, and hope never to be in one, but after watching that video of the robbery the amount of time to make a deicision is so low. I think MrTwigg is right in that it would be good to really try and set list on what would be clear shoot/no-shoot situations.

Again, crazy as it sounds, we got to remember we live in a state where criminals and illegal aliens have more rights than we do it seems.
