Since nobody got hurt, and the guy in the video is drugged out, it's kinda funny.

But moreso to me, I'm suprised at how uneffected the man was to the spray. Also somebody posted a while back about a Marine getting sprayed with Pepper Spray, and still managing to make a citizen's arrest with his CCW.

Frankly it makes me want my LTC:ALP even more. If this guy was really violent (He may have been raising hell before the cops arrived, but I bet he lost his stones when he noticed he was outgunned and out numbered) I don't think the spray would have been enugh to stop him from doing harm.

I don't like that.

not what Massachusettes is telling me!

"Hey you don't need that ALP! That LTC will let you carry Pepper Spray! That's all you need"

Hey, the spray seems like a valuble tool, and if I'm ever given a CCW permit I think I would ALWAYS carry spray also.....and a citizen with spray is better than an unarmed citzen.

But I'd REALLY not want to rely on it 100%.....

Pepper spray = Piss off your attacker more
Right!
I find that when it's to the point that you need to use the spray, it doesn't work. You usually end up getting everyone else that's in the area.

Not to add that it doesn't work well on some folks.

Eat a LOT of hot peppers? You may well be half immune to pepper spray, since you do build a tolerance to it.

Hint - Don't spray Adam with it, he may just laugh at you.

Wow, I thought it would have a little more effect than that. It bothered him, but certainly didn't disable him at all. They should have used the battons.

Worse yet I've been always told "It causes Instant Blindness, and extream pain"

You can tell he wasn't liking it....and he was tearing up, so probably things were a little blury for him. But he was able to manuver around pleanty, and it didn't seem to take much fight out of him.

Again, I don't like that, and I don't like what I hear people telling me (As they deny my ALP).

Hey, WB, I hear you.

Pepper Spray isn't near as good as they claim. Tear gas doesn't always work so hot, either. Ask any older veteran about tear gas. We used to train with it.

This is true. We tested this at Camp Pendelton. The Latinos had a much better tolerance to it. And if you have been sprayed before the effects are less each time you get sprayed.

"Mentally challenged man beaten by police. Film at 11"

The only reason that situation went so far is because there was a video camera there. After the second attempt with the spray, there should have been a take down.
The officers were affected more than he was.

Well Tear Gas and Mace is also a bad choice for chemical deturants here in the North East, because it's about as nasty a foul fart if the weather is cold, since the chemicals won't vaporise.

Also I've been told that if you're metally ill or twisted on drugs, Mace and Tear gas may not have ANY effect.

YOu when they sprayed him for like the 5th time, the LE was thinking "awww, shit"
Bet is was sooner than that!

I think after the first spray when the guy wiped his eyes and took another sip of beer the officers knew it was going to be one of those nights. [twisted]

You think? Hell, some of that HAD to get into his beer. So that would make for some nasty ass beer. I just can't think that pepper spray would taste all that good. I don't care if it's made out of the same peppers that I eat. I wouldn't pick up a can to spray on it my burrito at Taco Bell.

makes me want to spray myself just to see, i dont trust carrying something as a deterrent without knowing how it will effect me first.
Do they spray willing participants in the GOAL chemical spray course?
im tempted :)
dont worry if i do it to myself ill video tape the whole thing for you all to laugh at.

I think it has a lesser effect than CS Gas, which I think is weak. I'll never carry pepper spray, I've been sprayed before in a class and I would have been able to assault someone if I wanted to.

You are correct. CN is weaker than CS, and Pepper Spray is weaker than both.

I've been adjusted to CS in my past (Active Duty), and have woken up smelling it, rolled over and gone back to sleep, while sleeping in the open, in the field.

We had the option on that, and I wussed out. I saw some pretty big Marines drop like fish. I didn't need to get stuck myself to know it was going to hurt. [wink]

LOL I tazed myself at a party once just to see what it would do to me... Turned it on, hit myself in the chest with it. Dropped to my knees, yelled "f***" then stood right back up and gave it back to the girl that had it...

Of course my old buddy BEER was my influence for trying it in the first place..

Wouldn't it be awesome if every cop that has every denied any of us ALPs because "we don't need guns" would let us try pepper spray and tasers on them to test their efficacy?!

Yes, my original Chief (good guy) refused to authorize carry of chemicals on the job. He told me that it would only piss off someone high on drugs/alcohol.

Eventually we certified with OC in the Academy, but still didn't carry it. Now they all carry it, but for most cases it is just the PC thing to do for the invariable inquiry. [Let JonJ correct me if I'm wrong here.]

In the Academy we had it sprayed over our heads to get a "flavor" for it. They try to teach you to fight thru it because the officer is also going to get a dose of the stuff back in their own face.

As a Constable, I don't carry it and my certification ran out many years ago. Eventually I'll get recertified and will carry it, but it is only mid-way on my priorities list. I'm literally in people's faces when I serve them papers or make an arrest (always with two or more people), so if someone gets ugly, the opportunity and threat is right there. At a 2' distance between me and the people I'm dealing with, any spray will definitely be "in my face too"!

Funny story...

Me and this chick accidentally maced ourselves in detention hall one day. "Just spray a little there on the desk to see what it does" my famous words just before we start touching it and playing with the puddle only for the fumes to get us in the eyes and of course the first thing we did... Yep you guessed it rubbed our eyes with hands covered in the chemical.

Funny to think about now looking back on it...

GOD she was a hottie too! [twisted]
