PC in P-Town

Given that this was in P-town, there might have been some blunts being passed around during the discussion and vote. :?

I've said it before, Political Correctness will be the downfall of this nation.

I'm just glad the statue depicting the flag-raising at Iwo Jima isn't in Provincetown. There's not a woman in it, meaning that the selectmen would order it melted down for scrap.

But, there is a Native American participating in the flag raising. One Ira Hayes, I believe him to have been a Pima Indian.

Nah. It just seems that when you think you've seen it all, BLAM! I bet that woman's last name is hypenated too. [shock]

Considering the major make up of the community in P-town...that doesn't surprise me. Well, ya know, it's a small town...they don't have all that much to occupy them. [roll]

I believe it was George Santayana who opined, "He who ignores the past is condemned to repeat it" or words to that effect.

By white-washing (hmm. Have to change that Euro-centric word won't we?) these events, we're trying our level best to erase the past. Once that is accomplished, we're doomed to repeat the same mistakes over and over...

In a way, it's analogous to what they're doing with firearms.

*There are measures being introduced to make 18 the *minimum* age for hunters.

*All traces of firearms have been removed from cartoons. No more Elmer Fudd "Be vewy vewy quiet. I'm huntin' wabbits". No Yosemite Sam.

*Disney has gone so far as to re-write "Born To Be Wild" to specifically remove "guns".

They are VERY carefully eliminating guns from my children's generation.

My grandchildren will most likely only know of firearms through their grandfather (and, hopefully, their daddy or mommy in my daughter's case).

My generation (I'm 34) grew up with less exposure to guns than the previous (baby boomers) who grew up with less exposure than that previous ("greatest" generation). My grandparents grew up in a time when machine guns were unregulated. My dad grew up in a time when guns were available through mail order. I grew up in a pre-Brady Bill/Assault Weapons Ban world. No school physical resulted in my being asked about guns in the home.

My kids? They will always have known waiting periods, strict regulations on Class IIIs, and blatant anti-gun bigotry from all sides - school, media, etc.

They're winning the culture war. We may be making in-roads as far as CCW and the expiration of the AWB, but we're losing the culture war.

I predict that in two generations gun owners will be a distinct minority (such as smokers are presently) and we will see a dramatic reversal in gun rights.

I hope I'm wrong. But I fear I'm right.
