I was just searchin packing.com. How come it seems easier for non residents to get LTC's than it is for residents. This state sucks. If I didnt have to finish school here Id be gone. Some elighten me Im really F-ing pissed.

Check the Gun Laws forum here (set User CP to see ALL threads, default is 30 days).

Easy answer:

351 cities/towns + "suitability" discretion for chiefs = 351 different sets of rules for residents.

NRs all submit thru CHSB = 1 set of rules! If you meet the MGL requirements they were giving LTC-A/ALP (don't know if this changed at all).

I'll add another twise - non-citizens living outside MA (or even outside the country) can mail order an LTC (assuming they can fine a MA certified instructor), whereas non-citizens living in MA can only qualify for the alien FID.

Exactly, as a not-yet-citizen that was a big factor in my choosing NH over MA for my recent move.

The main reason is they are already taking as much money from you as they can.

This is a way to get $100 a year from someone that doesn't live here. In the eyes of the Commonwealth, that is just plain Heaven.

Actually, that's not the reason. The state was just as accomodating to non-residents when it was $5.00 per year.
