What a shame. My Dad grew up in Oregon in the 20s and 30s and his dad was a hunter and part time gunsmith. I've happy childhood memories of thanking Grandma for breakfast, grabbing the .22 and going out to the field where Grandad had his own backyard 100y range. Grandad is doing 80 RPMs in his grave right now.
