Optics, what's your preference for your rifles?

Project much? If you weren't triggered by my comment on the needless weight that I wasn't a fan of, then you wouldn't have said to get stronger now would you? Exactly. Just calling a spade a spade, friend.

By the way, there's absolutely zero need to counter argue what one [prefers because you can still prefer something without trying to snipe at the same time.

FYI, my posted opinion also comes from three decades of experience so there's that, do with as you wish also.

Absolutely no one is teaching the magwell grip these days, and these guys have actually done several hours clearing buildings. So if you consider that to be poo pooing, then you are not rethinking at all and have remained stagnant to the old school way of yesteryear. And speaking of which, your fulcrum is for the older style angled outwards and a fully extended stock that went away instead of further, the modern way is closer using less of stock extended while still giving a correct LOP by rotating your grip upwards and arm bent at 90 degrees until the stock touches, you are therefore much closer to the gun and can now extend out with little effort meaning less fatigue.

Your opinion is your own but there is no lost capability by either selecting a red dot or a prism. That's just the opinion of a confirmation biased person being ignorant to any other idea but his own. In my experience, decades worth, I'd rather have lightweight because weight actually matters and it's smarter to do what's best for me at no loss of capability. I choose function over form.

By the way as well, I was using an issued ACOG RCO by 2003 and an Aimpoint CQO before that, so as I've said before you're not the only one who's done this ;)

Thank you your internet service though, wasn't called for or needed. I just asked what everyone preferred and gave my example of one that was benign, and was sniped for it.

Okay.

Nothing, huh? Okay then...
First off, I'm impressed that you waited exactly 24 hours, right down to the minute to follow up, lol.

I'm a simple Aimpoint Pro guy. Not too cheap, not too expensive, decent rep and they havent failed me yet. I also have a holosun (forget the model number and I'm too lazy to look) which has held up thus far.

I suffer from a slight astigmatism and wear contacts. Any red dot I've looked at usually looks more like a starfish than a dot, aimpoint however is the best I've seen to my eyes. The reticle on my slx-1 prism is as clear as day, I love it. It's probably the first sight I've used that could get me completely off of red dots. No batteries, no problem, you still have a functional sight. And in the bright sun I kind of like having the black reticle over a red dot. If you use a good WML at night within reasonable distance it illuminates enough so that you can still see the reticle clearly. I can say that the YouTube videos showing the reticle don't do it justice, when you see it with your own eyes and set the diopter it's sooo much better. Just need to get a flip up front iron and this girl's GTG, I love this rifle, eats anything you can feed it.

That was next on the list to try out! Glad you like it.

I do, I just remembered that it also has an illuminated reticle, 2 or 3 night vision settings and shake awake. Comes with a few different risers, I think you can get up to 8 different heights. For under $300 it's a pretty sweet package.

Wait a second, you getting a kickback from Marshall for this free advertising?

Aimpoint Pro is a classic.

Use case is certainly the driving factor. I wouldn’t put my .50 BMG’s 4.5-27x56 Vortex Razor on my 7.62x39 AR. I also wouldn’t put the AR’s StrikeFire II red dot on the Barrett. I will say that my most common rifle sight is a red dot with a 3X swing mount magnifier. My eyes are too old to do irons very well, so I do have an optic of some sort on almost all my rifles (could not bring myself to put one my Henrys or some of my “cowboy guns”).

I have found that since I had my cataract surgery I’ve become extremely fond of my ACOG with the Primary Arms ACSS reticle.

I just like giving positive reviews on things that I have good experiences with. Most of the time people are more apt to complain about something then speak kindly of it. I wouldn't be opposed to getting some free stuff to review in case anyone's paying attention lol. I could use an excuse to create a YouTube channel.

More of an irons guy here, but I have a Sig Romeo 5 and Juliet magnifier. The 2moa red 'dot' is more of a 3 moa wide 2 moa tall 45 degree 'smear' when magnified. Holds zero fine out to a couple hundred yards, but the 'smear' doesn't really allow for sub ~3 moa groups, which should be more like ~1 moa. But, it's a cheap red dot and magnifier.

I was just doing a little internet teasing. Start up that youtub channel.

It’s a shame that PA and Trijicon stopped doing the ACSS ACOGs.

I got bummed when I found out that they stopped making any more 31's with the ACSS. The ACSS is the way to go, stupid simple to use with a basically foolproof built in range finder for minute of bad guy. But most of their ACSS house brand (Primary Arms) is made in China. That's a no-go at this station with me.

Just a coincidence, honest!

I like the Pro. I tried their micro budget similar in Pro price range Duty dot, it's staying but I'm not a fan of it's buttons instead of a knob for on and off/brightness control.

Their Phillipine GLx and Japanese PLx interest me, particularly the new 2022 models. I like the addition of crosshairs in their FFP reticles. And the PLx-C has great specs.

I spent a little time looking for a TA31 with a red Aurora reticle after they were discontinued, but they dried up fast. I always wondered which company decided to stop making them.

Just an assumption here, but I think that Trijicon was their beta tester for the the whole ACSS with prisms idea. But Trijicon is a bit resistant to their customers asking for an ACOG with a diopter and I'm guessing that when PA asked for a budget version of the ACOG with a diopter, they were told to pound sand so they went elsewhere.

Could be. There’s no way Trijicon would modify the ACOG to add diopter adjustment for Primary Arms. And I doubt Trijicon would make a new optic just for PA. I figured it just had something to do with fees/percentage cuts or similar. But who knows.

The aurora reticle version would have been perfect to replace any DRMOed ACOGs.

I had an offer from DRMO once to buy Matechs for $10 each and as much as I wanted. I absolutely did not want the fidgeted (abused) rear BUIS's so I declined the offer.
You could have sold them to cloners for like 100% profit, ha.

I don’t mind the Matechs. But only have one. I shutter when the Army uses them as a primary sight though. Way too much wobble and too fragile for that use.

I was probably doing them a favor by letting someone else accept that challenge. Some cloners actually use their clones as actual rifles, I have too much of a conscious to flip the equivalent of a USGI fidgety sticks who may actually on the off chance have to use one for doing serious things.

I always when allowed, took mine off. The 31 is virtually Joe proof and the Aimpoint housing could be used as the rear peep ghost ring in an emergency. Heck if debris from battle blacked out your dot but the dot was still there you could still use it as an occluded red dot.

Fun fact for the uninformed: Occluded was what the Son Tay Raiders used, they killed a lot of people worth getting killed for with no KIA. Food for thought for those that insist on a rear BUIS with a fixed front sight.

I’m an old school ACOG guy because I like the light weight and the durability. But, it seems like everyone taking “high level” DMR/SPR courses these days is using an LPVO.

I still like BUIS for austere use. I mean, I’ve seen ACOGs still ticking after the M4 itself was blown to pieces. But they can crap the bed, albeit rare.

But really, I would never expect to flip them up and use them within seconds of a malfunction like some people like to think. But they’re a nice piece of mind for multi-day patrols, so that if your optic shits the bed you can still put down accurate fire until you return for a refit.

But I totally get people ditching theirs. The likelihood of needing it is exceedingly low.

Edit to add: I think an offset red dot can successfully function as a backup sight in my CONOPs above.

ditching - i would gladly pick one up for %50 of its price. it is an issue to buy it for a %100 retail considering all the other options.

i took my 16" light one to 50yds to shoot - and took the side red dot off. the lpvo at 1x is just fine, and twisting it 45deg to shoot was less intuitive to me than just do it through lpvo.
still, no AR is as great as tavor for this short range stuff.

Really depends what Im doing.
I like to “over optic” alot
For example I have a SIII 8x32x54 that I run on my 22s. Cause 24X is just nice at 200 yards with a 22lr

I have a several scopes from 4x 5/8 tubes to the 8x32x54
Some red dots too. Dont use the res dots alot.

The direct exchanged that comes to DRMO is either from phased out weapon takeoffs or were found somewhere in a connex and the unit that turned them in got the credit at the reduced value tacked on to their class 9 funds for the year.

So you'd getting something that was used as a fidgeting tool from bored or stressed out soldiers and had worn down the spring tremendously. Your best bet would be to find one still in it's factory wrap that came as a spare part that time has forgotten about, and was turned in and then zeroed out for resale at DRMO.

What I was offered came off of the M4's that were pre-staged somewhere at some point in time, and looked more used and abused than a barracks "MWR" female "Better Opportunities For Single Soldiers" service member rep in South Korea.

Challenge not accepted, broseph.
