Hey everyone, I've been reloading for a good amount of time and I'm confident in my loads, but this could use an opinion

GEN 4 Glock 30
Xtreme bullet 200gr rn plated
5.4gr titegroup
1.230 OAL
Mixed range brass
CCI large pistol primer

Some books say this is a tad over max and some don't but most info I find is on swc and jhp. I'm also a bit above on the OAL. Recoil didn't seem excessive more like a factory 230gr fiocchi FMJ (noticed that brand to be hotter) and brass ejection is tough to read since I shoot indoors and it pings off the plexiglass

QUICKLOAD shows this safe @

18199psi
877fps

i know this is on the warm side and I see most people are throwing around 4.6gr with this bullet, that was very much a powder puff load. I don't need to load HOT but I like a stout load and the above shot excellent in my gun

Anyone shoot this type of load or does anyone think I'm giving the pistol a good beating?

Thanks!

I would go with the bullet manufacturers data. They all seem to vary a bit. But the only hot loads i have for .45 are jhp 230g Hornady that were from promo years ago and I used their data.

Use a chrono to confirm that your loads are within SAAMI specs and you should be fine. I was loading .380 to mid range powder load and the chrono had them clocked above max velocities. Pulled the pills and started over.

According to the Hodgdon website:
View attachment 139027
I would have started at 4.8 gr and worked from there. I also use xtreme bullets in 9mm, 38, and 44 and go with the starting lead charge weights then work up from there.

My chrono is a barrel mounted magneto speed which won't mount to a compact pistol :( I have a G 30 and range doesn't allow standard type

I loaded some @

4.6- very weak brass barley ejected and poor accuracy

5.1- good ejection accuracy wasn't quite there

5.4- further ejection, found most of it a few feet behind me and had excellent accuracy.

I also load bullseye and settled around 5.2 with that powder but liked the TG load much better.

I cannot see your photo on hodgdon but from what I saw it was with entirely different @ 5.3gr max bullets so I wasn't sure

Speer doesn't list TG for 200gr

Hornady lists 5.6 max @ 1.200, quickload shows that at there OAL to be over pressure but not with mine

Lyman is all over the place 5.3-5.9

Nosler doesn't list 200gr.

As you can see I collect all the books lol

I don't think I'm over pressure just wondering if any experienced reloaders would have an opinion as I know how touchy TG can be and I know it's close to max.

I think the only way I'm going to know for sure is get my hands on a full size .45 to mount the chrono

Loaded a few @
5.4 @ 1.230
5.4 @ 1.255
5.6 @ 1.230

I realize the 5.6 is hot I don't intend to keep loading that but it's hornadys published max @ 1.200 and I like to know if I'm loading @ 5.4 I'm not .2 away from a bad day. I may or may not fire these depending on the chrono results with 5.4. My experience is telling me 5.4 is going to be close to factory duplication and I'll end up dropping a tenth for safety but we'll see

I'll post results in a few hours for anyone interested

You should realize that plated and jacketed are NOT the same thing! Loading plated bullets at jacketed maximums is asking for trouble

Right. But as long as he works up from the starting charge to see how they perform/pressure signs etc I think he should be okay. I recently loaded some full house 357 mag and 44 mag loads with Xtreme plated bullets and a near max charge of 2400 and H110 with great results. I worked up to this load of course.

Titegroup is too snappy for .45. Move to Unique, N340, or something like that instead. The result I got when making titegroup 230s was, I'd fire the round and then look at the chrono, almost disappointed... because of the bang/snap, I expected more than what showed up on the chrono. [laugh]

You need to dump that club and find one that will let you run a real chrono. Otherwise you're sorta playing in the dark.

My willingness to push the plated is because of the .45 velocity I know I won't be going over 1000fps and xtremes are rated at 1200. I certainly wouldn't be doing this with a 357 sig lol

the only range I know of that allow reloads in the Rhode Island area is indoor so magneto is my only option. I love my range and am on a first name basis with everyone there. But if anyone knows an outdoor range I'll happily join up there too!

I'll certainly agree about TG being snappy but I do like a stout load and I'm not really concerned with ballistic efficiency with this load. It is highly accurate in my G30 and leaves the gun very clean. I chose to pursue this load because it was a fast powder for a more complete burn in the short barrel.

I just chronoed the loads and I will post results in a few.....fingers and toes intact : )

Results from the chrono. Velocity was a touch lower than I thought but I knew it would be since I am shooting from a 3.78" barrel. Overall I say the 5.4 @ 1.230 is a safe load but I'll probly stick with 5.3 for the safety buffer. An average of 776 converted to a 5" barrel in quickload shows around 836fps with a chamber pressure of 13402psi.

Looking at the 5.6 I had a couple that had ejector marks on the case head again converting the 813fps to 5" shows 874fps and the max 858@ 910fps which would be in line with hornadys 900fps max. I am not surprised by this and I'm glad I know how much is to much.

In the end id say I've found a highly accurate clean burning plinker with safe velocitys for plated that simulates recoil for my 200gr factory defense load

I show max loads from various manuals from 5.2-5.9gn for jacketed bullets. If you worked the load up properly and recoil is equal or less than factory, case ejection distance is equal or less than factory, and case/primer are all good, then you are set--but you are over the manufacturer's recommended load for that bullet.

What do you have for there load all I see is to keep the velocitys under 1200fps?

I thought @ 5.3 with the longer said OAL I was running midrange

I think realistically if I drop down much I'm going to be pushing a 200gr bullet around 680fps on the min side. That sounds very low to me
