Australia had a huge gun confiscation a few years ago - including all EBRs and similar, as well as any hangun over 9mm. (A friend lost his 40 SVI to the crown). While there was a "big bore exemption" for shooting sports, the politboro determined that it did not apply to action shooting sports (IPSC, etc.), though Cowboy may have been able to keep their large wheelguns.
In addition to the typical extreme licensing requirements, part of the official Aussie policy is that self defense is never considered a valid reason to own a gun, and anyone claiming such a reason will have their non-carry permit application rejected.
This is probably why England included many items not prohibited by law (holsters, reloading dies, etc.) on the price list of items to be reimbursed when turned in for destruction - eliminate not only the guns, but any trace of the gun culture.
